The price of convenience.
There's a cost for everything.

This is not new and almost common sense, ESPECIALLY if you travel to a foreign country (airport lounges in particular, be it 1st or Business Class).
Ask yourself, with the exclusion of wireless data transfer like Airdrop, how else do you extract data from your phone to a computer?

I use a charging pad while traveling abroad. I may have broken parts of my usb connection to the phone so the only way to charge it is through the wireless charging pad. 0 data can be transferred through the pad

Just plug the phone into an electric outlet, instead of a USB port.
If you have an Iphone, and prompt appears on your screen asking you if you trust this device, always click "no" on this, unless it's your own device you are connecting to.

They dont mention the easiest and most convinient fix, dont use a data cable, use a charging only cable. Same size, same price, fixes the problem of data jacking. Or a small charging only adapter.

"convenient" ... but the other option too, is to change your USB setting to charge only, and only change it back when you need to transfer data.
