bad mom moment.... he would go on road trips with me when I was 20ish and we would be gone for weeks at time. Sometimes I would say f the dog food and he would get nuggets and fries from mcdonalds (i took the "breading" off). Those would be his spoiler moments. Once he got older he couldn't eat any of that mess

Aww, I’m sorry. Losing a pet is hard. But you gave him a happy life, even as he gave you companionship and happiness in return.

If memory serves, our first PM exchange was when you wrote something here about one of your doggos having a health issue. I want to say it was 8, 9 years ago. If this was the same little guy, it's a blessing you got those extra years with him.

I'm a huge dog lover, and have had dogs in my life since I was about 8 years old...
They are your family and it's very difficult to see your loving dog pass...

Check57 - I think it may have been his gf, she had a ovarian cyst i had removed. Possibly was him though because he had to have a knee surgery about 8 years ago or so. I agree, we definitely don't deserve these special creatures

I am very sorry for your loss, I lost my fury best friend in 2019. I have never felt pain like that before, it's gut wrenching.

I have lost 2 dogs. One from cancer and one from autoimmune disease.
Both were 8 years old. I was devastated both times.
I understand....they are truly part of the family.

We lost our English Bulldog, Sarge, a few weeks ago. I was heartbroken that I wasn't with him when he passed. He had been living in Hawaii with my eldest daughter for the last two years. We were fortunate to have him in our lives for 13 yrs.

I had to get our dog put to to sleep a couple years ago. She was 16, and was an all around awesome dog. She had a great life but at the end her health issues got so bad that I couldn't watch her suffer anymore. Still she was loving till the very end even though you could see in her eyes that it was time to go.
Total heartbreak.

PK, I lost my true love year ago , I think of her constantly.
I lost my shit when I seen her take her last breath. I told her to go, to stop suffering. I asked God to take her now.
She slept in my bed for 15 yrs. I didn't want her to leave me., so she slept in my bed as I mourned for 3 more days. On the fourth day I placed her in the coffin I made for her and placed her next to a tree in the front yard that she would patrol everyday.
My son said it was weird that a had a deceased dog in my bed for three days. It felt normal to me. I didn't want to see her go.

Ohhhhh...... PK....I'm so sorry for your loss. I rescued my boy Jacks from some people that were going to take him to the pound, he was with me for 10 years. I treasure every single day with him. A cuddly pitbull/boxer mix that loved everybody(well almost)!!! He helped me through a lot of times.
Sending you lots of hugs and love....he is not over the Rainbow Bridge, playing and having fun, just waiting for the day you call his name when he will come running back into your arms.

Good morning and Thank you Everyone for your stories, kind words and love
Kilo did have a very full, long and happy life and I am at peace knowing he's not just "hanging in there".
Yesterday almost seemed like it was meant to be. Kilo was Cheech to my mom's Chong so him passing on 4/20 really made sense. We had one last 100 mile road trip and he had one last sesh with my mom til I took him back to my grandparents home where he enjoyed that yard the most and said my goodbyes. It was emotional but I hold close our last day together and it couldn't have been more perfect
Side note: his gf won't go anywhere near any of their bedding or room they slept in so her quarters will be getting a makeover 💝

PK, some opine that when your doggy love crosses the rainbow bridge into heaven, your friend is waiting there for you.
And that when it's your turn to cross the rainbow bridge to the other side, you find your former bestie waiting for you, tail wagging, appearing as he or she did when still in their prime, bounding and running, shoulder and back muscles rippling in the sun as you two get reunited.
I'd like to think my pack are up there waiting, free of pain and age, remembering the kisses, fondles, face licks, running along at your side, blissfully happy to see you once again.
The thought comforts me, even though it is just one of many possibilities of the truth. May your memories of your sweet one buoy your spirits in your experience of love lost.
