The Wendy theory is wild! I do enjoy that theory.

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy".

But she didn’t kill Dick Halloran, did she?

I would admit Wendy goes nuts but Jack Torrence went off the deep end first.
Wendy goes crazy right just after Jack manages to escape from the refrigerator she locked him in.
Up to this point in the story all of the supernatural appearances could be explained as manifestations of Jack's madness and Danny's 'shining'. There is a 'rational' explanation for all of them.
But the opening of the door can only be explained by a supernatural intervention. This was done by the ghost of Grady the old caretaker.
We are then forced to accept that the ghosts are real.
And now Wendy is the crazy one.

She did play a pretty good bat-shit crazy part in that movie.

She never locked him in a refrigerator. It's all in her head. Watch wendy theory on youtube

Wow. Just blew my mind, I've seen the shining a bunch of times and never noticed all the inconsistences.
Absolutely correct there's no way that Stanley Kubrick would allow all those continuity errors in his films...

I agree... Interesting theory for sure.
I always thought Nicholson's character was off in that movie.

Nacramam can you explain the picture?

In a nutshell, there's a large number of scenes that don't align. Things like carpets, light fixture,
and the door smashing that don't match from one scene to the next.
Oblina is right on this one, once you see all evidence Kubrick was too skilled of a
film maker to make those mistakes. (Just spend 3 and half hours watching Barry Lyndon)

Nice thing about "the arts" - its open for interpretation.
Sure the Shining was a good movie, some say great, but you know who didn't like it?
Stephen King - the author.
He's actualy been pretty vocal about how Kubrick missed the central themes, strayed too far from his work, on and on.
Kubric it's said didn't even look at King's screenplay.
Was it in Wendy's head? Is it in the book?

Interesting! I just watched this movie in its entirety last week (after a couple of HXers recommending it to me). I now want to read the book in the hope that it will help explain a couple of things that I couldn't figure out in the movie:
the scene where the "bunny mascot" is going down on the White dude.
the story behind the wench in room 234
the rationale behind the final scene where Jack is actually placed into the picture.
And on another random note, I just spent a couple of days in Denver and want to kick myself for not making the drive to visit the hotel.
What a great movie! I enjoyed it on the same level that I enjoyed The Witch (came out a few years ago).

the bunny mascot is a Wendy hallucination
|
|
Oh, I interpreted that scene as the ghost apparitions of a story that previously happened in the hotel (same as with the old woman in room 237)--perhaps explained in the book.
Thank you

Read the follow up peice that Stephen King wrote, "Dr. Sleep"
It's about Danny, the son all grown up & his life.
