Well this is hitting my life very hard. Lost income is tremendous. I am going to be homeless in the near future. Not sure what to do about it. 2 union cards and neither of them are worth much right now. UGH

might be good time to get some of your own shit started...write a book? start a youtube channel with something you have some expertise or passion for.

or whatever?

it is stressful for sure...but don't let this happen again to you

What did you do for the industry? What were you good at? Is it transferable to another industry temporarily?

Hmm. Your network is weird and your location if you are really in the business is weirder.

But weirdest of all is your unions would have already told you the endless resources I am now giving you.

Good luck.

it says they have an emergency fund if you can prove financial hardship.

but, in all honesty - what kind of union doesnt provide some pay to striking members?
isnt that fundamental for a good union???

they offer loans up to $5000 through credit unions - thats a joke.

i see this strike ending early.

I'm confused.

Hollywood by and large is gig employment right?

Work from job to job, sometimes tons of work lined up, might be a dry spell or two.

Under normal conditions, it could be feast or famine - at least to my understanding.

Strike is less than two weeks old.
So, given normal processing time for payroll and processing, it's unlikely that any paychecks have been missed yet.

Yet, per your post, you are on the verge of homelessness?

Seems to me, the blame should be placed elsewhere.

But, I could be wrong.

A lot of the guys working below the line have no clue how to manage their money and are in debt up to their eyeballs buying homes they can't afford, over priced trucks, harleys, boats, sand rails, dirt bikes, jet skis..... all crap that they rally can't afford.

Then there's all the money they waste on partying

They spend like they have got a regular stable job.... and then when there is a dry spell or a strike, or they get divorced they freak out and their shit starts getting repossessed.

I lived low profile and saved for the dry spells. I would be sitting there after a show with 70k in uncashed paychecks, and a little bachelor pad with next to no overhead...and guys I worked with were sweating before the show even wrapped.

Until they learn to manage their lifestyles....this is how it's gonna be.

^ The only major star that's actually done that, that I know of, is Keanu Reeves.

He has a habit of negotiating his contract then telling the studio he wants a large % of it to go to the 'working' actors on the project.

They could do both....
Except every streamer is losing their ass, sea of red ink.

Hopefully, both parties go broke and "hollywood" disappears as an industry.
Too much good foreign stuff to watch than waste time on the derivative shit coming out American writers......fucking drivel............Barbie?

Mixed emotions though cause OP should prosper and be happy.
Might be in a different career though.
Either way, I wish him buenos suerte

Stage lighting technician.
Doesn’t really transfer to any other industry. Unemployment isn’t covering the bills and my bad habits.
Going to see my doctor tomorrow. Going on disability. Should cover me. I qualify for $2400 a week. Had to vent. Once I did. Felt better.

considering the pay per gig scenario, it is actually ponderous that it is legal in the current state of "woke" california.
uber drivers had to get an exemption - which they got.
truck drivers / owner operators were not as lucky, no exemption for them.
