Regardless of your political affiliations or inclinations, there are 3 simple things that would change the entire political landscape and bring sanity back into our political process:
1) Mandatory retirement age (say 72).
2) Term limits (2). With a reasonable pension plan!
3) Referendums on the federal level (let's reign in ALL the special perks that ALL of these assholes get!)
We are taught that there are basically 3 classes of citizens in the U.S.; rich, middle class, and poor. But there is a 4th class that is the root of most of our problems; Privileged Professional Politicians (P3). Once in office, it doesn't take long for most of the P3 to get drunk with the power and start to abuse it. They quickly forget the main reason they were elected in the first place, to serve their constituents.
And there is yet one more class of people that in some cases can be even more destructive to the democratic process than the P3's; the media! With the advent of the internet, this class of people, now heavily armed with sophisticated propaganda tools and almost instantaneous global messaging, has the ability to influence thousands (if not millions) of semi-literate citizens (or even literate ones that are simply apathetic). When campaigns resort to AI for their messaging, truth and reality will become very obscure - as if it isn't already off-the-hook!
