Them the ant movie, now that's something you can put in your air fryer.
I like the 50 foot woman movie better.

Salvia and borage are great, too.

This'll sound stupid, but make sure you have the right kind of milkweed. One's not great for them, don't remember which.

I remember seeing a NoCal redwood forest completely covered with Monarchs during their migration down to Mexico in my teens . Monarchs are now on the endangered list, their population is down to nothing due to loss of habitat, pesticides, and climate change. Nice gesture, but I don't think it'll bring the population back from gradual extinction.

So that's why they keep following me ! Lol. Did you know there is a park in Michoacan, Mexico that the ENTIRE park is monarch butterflies ?? Even all over the ground; when you walk into the park it's inevitable that you walk on them(those that are on the ground), but I've been told by a close friend of mine whose from there,he says it's beautiful đ

There's a big Monarch Butterfly Preserve right near me, it's gets Hundreds of Thousands each year
|
|
I started this myself some years back but learned from others that starting your own gardens for monarchs specifically actually negatively influences their desires to migrate to their native grounds, hence lowering the population. Check it out for yourself to make sure the good deed you're after is the right choice. Unless you just want pretty butterflies around...
And yea, a couple different types of milkweed as mentioned above...

it keeps them local longer than intended and too late into the seasons for their natural migrations.

Natural Bridges Monarch Trail

Climate change..

^ yeah saw that.
Same reason dinosaurs went extinct. Big meteor made the climate change.

@Nacraman
I visited that spot in Goleta near UCSB and liked it. Took my family peeps during a vacation through central CA last year.
Hiked through dense wooded trails near the beach and saw a lot of butterflies.

I keep my hummingbird feeders up year round so a number of them in my area don't migrate. Maybe the butterflys will be around all year.
Before I planted the milkweed I hadn't seen a Monarch in over a year, now I'm seeing them daily.

used to SEE 100 a day in the backyard...back in the 70's
don't think i have SEEN one in over 40 years.
not aware there was an issue...probably doesn't help living at the beach for me to actually have a chance to see em

Awww how beautiful đ

one person providing a habitat is going to effect the state population ?? seriously ?? in a negative way ?? figures its from somebody w a zero rating.

From Audubon Society regarding feeding hummingbirds. Seems like it would be the same for butterflies.
Q: Wonât it make my hummingbirds stay too late if I continue to leave the feeder out for them?
A: No, hummingbirds are migratory species and are genetically programmed to head south in the fall. Itâs not a lack of nectar source or colder weather that makes them leaveâthey know itâs time based on changes in the length of the day and the angle of the sun.
