It's a Trap.
|
|
Yes, I'd like to be trapped on a free flight to Europe.
|
|
stick with cash back cards better ROI
|
|
Definitely something to evaluate. Redemption tiers have gone up since I used last year.
|
|
I go on multiple sites and ask for donations.

Fantastic ideas!
Stay tuned for my "Send Skippy to Croatia!" GoFundMe. I think I'm too late to meet iWant there for Yacht Week.

I earn airline miles for every chicken wing I make in my air fryer.

There's brokers I use for biz class to overseas destinations, so they're out there and cheaper than buying from the airline. Every dollar I have to spend in my biz goes thru Amex but be warned, the airlines keep moving the target farther away. Got 3 million miles on American and told them to GFT, as I got tired of them changing the rules.
Nobody gets my loyalty anymore, they do not care one iota about you.
Another option is to board naked and see if dragging the flappy sack on the ground impresses them enough to let you fly for free.
Mucha suerte !

I have a chase Sapphire and funnel points from all my other chase cards to it. The cost is not bad and they give me 1.25% for airline purchases. Remaining cards are no fee and have better bonuses for gas or cell phone etc...
It is a simple way for me to save for vacation travel, I saw one business years ago that paid their employees through the CC somehow, his wife and daughter were in Europe. Mine I keep simple and still pay many vendors with check.

I use capital One Venture. Just booked a
8 day trip to Ohau. Cashed in 400k in points.

I’m with ya GBD, I was surprised mileage levels have jumped, but I guess I shouldn’t be. Even during shoulder season.
Galen, I may get the low fee Chase card and get the initial mileage sign up bonus, but still looking.
I didn’t want to mess with juggling cards but I think that maximizes my return on cash back. Between 1% and 5% depending on the category. I’m looking at last year’s spend to see what my categories return in certain scenarios. I use Costco Citi Visa and that’s actually pretty good.
Angler, enjoy the trip man!

GF, uses Capital One card and also the Costco Citi Visa, pays for the premium membership
and a couple hundred at the end of the year. Good card for sure.
Cap One Venture Visa is $99 a year. First year free, plus a lot of points to start up.
I also use the Disney Visa for my business, pays for passes and all the other crap
That is Disney related. No cost per year.

You can find some crazy airline deals using miles/points, including for business and first classes.
For example. first class to Amsterdam or Paris from LAX on United a few months ago was only 50,000 points. I couldn't capitalize on it because my points are through AmEx, but Chase or Citi cards points transfer directly to United miles 1:1.
You may also be able to transfer points to a partner airline (like Cathy Pacific or Lufthansa) and buy the United flight through that partner's website with the points from a card that won't transfer directly to United. It takes some work, but you can get a tickets that would normally cost several thousand dollars for 50,000 points which is nothing. Travel is where the points are worth more than the cash back some cards offer.

Dude, should have called me. Either would have been fine, love both Amsterdam and Paris. Warning though, if we bunk together I snore.
|
|
Unfortunately, I didn't end up going because of a family emergency.
Amsterdam and Paris are great. Not sure I can take the snoring...

Love me some rijsttafel! Sorry it didn't work out for you.
|
|
Thanks.
Never heard of rijsttafel. Very interesting looking dish.
Amsterdam is such a beautiful city with debaucherous undertones. So fun.
It’s often better to fly into Amsterdam and take cheaper short flights or a train to other European cities.

Oh sure, colonialism had some negatives, but you can't beat the food.

Wife uses the Costco card and she likes to go out of her way there to buy gas when the PEH needs it. We get a check back every year and last trip to Hawaii it scored us a Nice Car when everyone else was out.
