How much prep should I really be doing? Cause I been away from home and don't even think there's a case of water there *yikes* I mean I'll get that, but should i bother with refrigerated foods if the power might be out?

Coastal OC. In my area I’m guessing power outages and wind damage. No flooding or anything like that.

WIND - LATEST LOCAL FORECAST: Equivalent Tropical Storm force wind - Peak Wind Forecast: 35-45 mph with gusts to 60 mph - Window for Tropical Storm force winds: Sunday afternoon until early Monday morning

- THREAT TO LIFE AND PROPERTY THAT INCLUDES TYPICAL FORECAST UNCERTAINTY IN TRACK, SIZE AND INTENSITY: Potential for wind 39 to 57 mph - The wind threat has remained nearly steady from the previous assessment. - PLAN: Plan for hazardous wind of equivalent tropical storm force. - PREPARE: Efforts to protect property should now be underway. Prepare for limited wind damage. - ACT: Act now to complete preparations before the wind becomes hazardous.

- POTENTIAL IMPACTS: Limited - Damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Unsecured lightweight objects blown about. - Many large tree limbs broken off. A few trees snapped or uprooted, but with greater numbers in places where trees are shallow rooted, especially in coastal and valley locations that don't typically experience strong winds. Some fences and roadway signs blown over. - A few roads impassable from debris, particularly within urban or heavily wooded places. Hazardous driving conditions on bridges and other elevated roadways. - Scattered power and communications outages.

HURRICANE PREP: Lots of bottled water stored in a way if the roof falls down due to hail and wind, ya'll can save it from getting crushed. And ya gonna need one of them battery powered cell phone chargers. If the electric grid goes down most of the Asian and Mexican restaurants still cook on gas stoves. So they be open. Just bring yer own candles if you visit at night. Keep a lantern somewhere nearby. Be smart where you store your fuel. Dumbass neighbors are known to accidently burn down buildings in these situations because, well they be stupid sometimes.

Canned food that tastes good cold is a good idea but not my choice. Guessing chips, cold pizza and salsa will get ya'll thru the first days of a long power outage before that can of cold Campbell Soup looks good to eat.

Redfish, your comment about Asian restaurants continuing to cook reminded me of something.

I was on a business to New York City when the great power outage of 2003 hit. The whole Northeast and parts of Canada were without power. NYC completely in the dark from like 4pm through at least the next morning. Only Chinese restaurants continued to serve. Tables pulled out to the sidewalk and candles.

It was totally surreal but everyone was so easygoing and helpful to one another.

We will get a great deal of rainfall, which could mean flooding. Winds could cause power outages.
Don't worry too much. Just make sure you have a flashlight, enough water, and food in case of a power outage. And just stay indoors while it passes.

It looks like it will hit us around Sunday evening, but things could start picking up as early as Saturday night and last into Monday morning.

I've lived in Florida and have gone through a few of these.

Even the Weather people will put fear into you.

A years worth of rain ? So DT LA will get more than 14.5 inches. Which is a seasonal average.

They need to go back to school. Perhaps they mean Vegas or Palm Springs.

Oh and btw, stay out of the Oceans for a week. Don't ask why.

"I have to admit that it’s amazing."

It's OK, even useless Progs love that app!

Check out the Hurricane tracker, hit the 3 bars lower right corner then "Hurricane Tracker" in top right corner. Constantly updates the most likely track the Hilary-cane will take.

I've never upgraded to Premium cause there's so much just on the regular.
Enjoy!

PS You can even track wind speeds at different altitudes, rain, snowfall, surf, swell directions, pussy locations and more!

As luck would have it - I'm in Florida now, the hurricane capital of the U.S.

Too bad I'm not in San Diego, I could have a couple of guys come on over and hide under the sheets with me - keep each other distracted so we don't get scared! But even though the house is tight, I bet it will still get WET in the bedroom!

.5 inches? That ain't shit!

A couple of months ago in Fort Lauderdale we had 25 inches in 24 hours! Heard of the 200 year flood plane? Well this was a once in a 1,000 years rain/flood. It was absolutely biblical!

My house in on a canal and it was not damaged. My rental is only about 1.5 miles away and is also on a canal. It got several inches of water all throughout the house when the water in the front yard couldn't drain to the canal fast enough; it was coming down that hard.

The storm coming to San Diego will be mostly wind so just secure loose things and make sure all your windows are closed tight. Unless your street has a drainage problem you should weather it out OK.

SDG&E MAY shut off the power to avoid a fire starting from a downed power line so make sure you have candles and/or flashlights WITH FRESH BATTERIES!

Then all you need to do is find someone to wait out the storm under the sheets with you!

Come on girls - where are the HURRICANE SPECIALS!

Calling it now !

Hilary will be a non-event for coastal SoCal.

IE and Coachella & Imperial Valley's will see the real action.

The Pacific Ocean is just too deep and cold to fuel a Tropical Storm.

The Gulf of California in Mexico is shallow and warm and can fuel the storm to the Inland areas.

Call me Dr George

Call me Johnny Mountain

Call me Dallas Rains

Now Florida, gets real weather, real rain, the type of rain that will flood a street in a minute sometimes. Their waters run shallow and their current comes up from the equator, so it's hot as fuck already ! California gets its current from the Gulf of Alaska, so it's cold as fuck !

We'll see later tomorrow if Hilary can sustain herself, but if she's anything like the Politician Hilary, you'll just run out of energy and fizzle into oblivion !

It’s better to be prepared for the worst. State and local officials are worried. The Navy is moving 5 ships out of port in San Diego.

I don’t think stocking up on food is necessary beyond a couple days (unless you’re in a remote area), but being prepared for the wind and rain would be advisable.

Projected Rain

Huntington Beach 2.23 inches
Hollywood 3 inches (over 1 inch in one hour).
Arcadia 3.17 inches
San Bernardino 3.34 inches

Coachella Valley could be fucked on this one, especially if the old shitty dikes break.
Supposedly, they fixed the one above Palm Desert after the last flood tore thru south PD.......but you never know. La Quinta has a flood channel that dumps out right into a sub-division, hope that levee don't break.

Might be a good time to take the canoe out to the flood channel and watch the water rip up some golf courses.
