I love Jazz and classical music.
She has a smooth clear voice for Jazz. Also a Grammy Winner.
THAT is why she's and good thing which has happened in the American music scene.

RawDawger, your initial post would be better if you just left off the politics.
It's just unnecessary, ya dig?

Since GBD urged me, so I will continue.
For the proof that how smart this lady is, she responded to the Forbes' interviewer's question about her learning process about the music, her following answer captures the essence of jazz music, and here is her quote;
"One of the songs from that assignment that we ended up choosing was Nancy Wilson, singing "Save Your Love For Me," with Cannonball Adderley. And I remember listening to her and of course it's a beautiful song on its own. But when you hear the original recording versus hers, which are years apart, you're like, "Yeah, it really depends on who the interpreter is. It brings the song off paper and brings it to life." And so that's why it's fun with jazz.
Of course we sing the melody, but then the second or third chorus of us singing it, we experiment with it and we add changes or we change the phrasing up. So it's not exactly as written. Because if we sing it exactly as written, there's nothing more being done about it to make it contemporary at all. So you take the good foundation of a song, but then you put it in the hands of a Nancy Wilson or Sarah Vaughan and it comes to life. It's the same song, but they bring it to life in different ways and add their own emotional fuel to connect with the audience and make it real."
That is truly beautiful answer, and that is how jazz music revives itself even with the standard songs we heard over and over in the past. And jazz music is essentially improvisational, and every time you play, it is different each time. However, we need an extraordinary talent like Samara Joy to make it happen.

Good job, Rash Cream.......no politics

The thing I like about Jazz is that when another artist covers an old standard or another modern tune it is a literal requirement that they bring different life into the interpretation .
This is how the best Jazz artists really show their talent beyond their own work.

Thanks GBD, but I suppose not many people are interested in jazz music, that is disappointing.
But according to NPR article about her, Samara's fans consist of three distinct segments.
The first, obviously jazz fans, the second, the smooth jazz audience (Sade, Anita etc), and the third social media audience.
For me her music is straight jazz, and I don't know how people in the second and the third audience relates themselves to her music. However, that is a good thing if her music attracts wider audience.

That is true

Fuck those heathens
Rewatching "Birth of the Cool" on Netflix right now but honestly, Ron Carter is bad ass.
Watching that guy play live is like an epiphany.
