Holy fucking shit, I knew the alternative to Trump were bad, but not this bad.
I would have voted for Christie, but after this he looks like a balloon buffoon.
And the other candidates look worse.
Scott fumbled at the start but recoveee by going into preacher mode.
Haley looked competent and had teeth against her opponents, but showed none of the actual characteristics of leadership, just political attacks.
Ramaswamy was a joke, directionless in his arguments and logic, and regurgitating far-right talking points.
Pence had no pulse.
And DeSantis… pretty much committed political suicide with his performance, unable to answer direct questions and then turning answers into a resume recital of his past, and not about the better future of our nation.

The thing that caught my eye was Gov. Newsom at the post-debate spin party. He went after DeSantis hard! One can surmise what his motivation is to do so. I believe that the Dems WANT DJT to be the Rep nominee because they think he is the best chance for the Dems to win - no matter who the Dem nominee is (and I think they are right). Newsome was just last night's designated attack dog. Next debate it will be someone else going after the perceived frontrunner.
One of the post-debate focus groups voted DeSantis as one of the top performers last night.

The only possible saving grace is that all of these people will say whatever is necessary to get elected then do whatever they damn well please once they get into office. How quick they forget what platform they ran on. Maybe DeSantis will abandon his attacks on Disney, or jump on the first Supreme Court ruling that strikes down the "anti-woke" agenda and claim that he has done all he could - now its time to get busy running the country (dust off those golf clubs)!

It’s a dire state of affairs and I have no solution only a recommendation. Ignore the figure heads, media spin and just pick a side. You're not voting for a person you're voting for your priorities. We agree on so much but tend to let our disagreements define us. Much as some would like to make it a binary choice supported by ad hominem attacks, it's really not (although DJT is an aberration). Neither side will match all of your priorities but as Winston so eloquently put it “democracy is the worst form of government – except for all the others that have been tried”. Let’s try and keep it.

Now is not the time to claim that there is a binary choice that everyone should take. The assault on democracy comes only from the right. Therefore, the only choice to support democracy and to save this country is to vote Democrat, no matter who the Democrat is, for President and vote Democrat and moderate Republican for every other office.

I agree with most of what you said, except for one thing:
I am not going to pick a "side" - I am going to pick a "person" that is most closely aligned with my ideas of what a level-headed politician should be. I would say possesses "moral integrity" but that seems to be a non-starter for any politician these day - but clearly, some of them are more morally corrupt than others. And some of them are just despicable human beings!
I am done with gang warfare. That is exactly what has gotten us into the mess that we are in today.
I did not vote for Biden, but when MTG started shouting to impeach him even before the inauguration party trash had been picked up, I knew the GOP was self-destructing.
The attached movie clip is the most truthful thing I have seen in the last 8 years! Almost everything since then is total BS! A large majority of what has come out of politicians' mouths in the past 8 years has been nothing more than attacking the other party. If they had spent even an equal amount of time addressing the concerns and needs of everyday citizens then we could have accomplished many great things.
