The trial starts Monday on the remaining issues and on the $250 million penalty. The appeals court denied delaying the trial.

How about a campaign pledge to abridge the First Amendment? Mr. Trump: “Comcast, with its one-side and vicious coverage by NBC NEWS, and in particular MSNBC, often and correctly referred to as MSDNC (Democrat National Committee!), should be investigated for its ‘Country Threatening Treason.’ . . . The Trump Organization valued Mar-O-Lago at $621 million in 2021. Palm Beach County assessor number was $21M. Trump Organization valued 7 Spring Estate at $291 million in 2014; Cushman & Wakefield number is $30 million. Me thinks the Trump Organization widely inflated the value of its assets and they didn't present any compelling information to the Court that their values were ballpark. Normally, a firm would have retained a respectable property assessor to present their case. Not so with the Trump Organization.

New York Judge Arthur Engoron’s determination that Trump inflated the value of the estate cites an appraisal by the Palm Beach County Assessor, which found the market value of the 17.5-acre property between 2011 and 2021 between $18 million and $27.6 million.
According to a 2023 market appraisal report by the city of Palm Beach, the total value of the property is $37 million, an increase of $6 million from last year and nearly $10 million more than the appraised value Engoron cited in his ruling this week.

2 things:
1) Anyone who owns a home knows that the property is usually assessed by the county tax assessor at a value that is almost always lower than the actual fair market value, but it usually isn't 1/1000th the FMV unless the property has been in the family for 100 years.
2) That being said, there is still quite a big difference in what the Trump Org. stated as opposed to the fair market value. I think in this case the judge decided that there was such a big difference that the actual fair market value was nowhere near the stated value. Hence, he overstated the value, which is against the law - plain and simple - doesn't really matter how much. And DJT's statement that he could sell it to the Saudis for 1.5 B is ludicrous. When he was president he might have been able to do that, but only as part and parcel to an influence pedaling scheme (kind of like what Biden is being accused of). And really, it was just plain stupid for him to even make that statement.
People doing 80 mph on the freeway when the posted speed limit is 75 usually get a pass because it is universally accepted that there is a grey zone. But if you are doing 120 mph then you are definitely breaking the law and will pay for it - as it should be.
And if we are to give any credence to the "there were no victims" then we might as well throw out over half of the laws that are on the books (not necessarily a bad idea, but ain't gonna happen).

Spot on, lenders don't give a shit what you think your property is worth, that's why they ALWAYS do an independent appraisal. Used to be that you could have "relationship" banking where they fudged a little to get the business but that's pretty much precluded by Federal and State laws now.
So, telling a lender on a document that you think your property is worth 10x it's real value will get you laughed out the door.
This is a very strange case though and even though the judge summarried FDT, the fact that she shut down any oral from FDT's shysters could mean other ramifications in the case.
For sure, if it stands, he may be totally fucked on doing biz in NY. Then they put his property in receivership with his family unable to make any decisions on it.........now that might be pretty funny.

Just read an article countering the "no victims" argument. Had he stated a lower and more realistic evaluation for FMV then the bank might have charged a higher interest rate, so they could have lost money in the transaction. If the banks risk is higher they will charge a higher interest rate.
When this issue first made the news I thought that the real problem was that he stated a higher FMV on the properties for loans with the banks then stated some lower figures for the same properties on his taxes. Not sure why FMV would even be a concern for taxes unless a title transfer was taking place that affected the step-up - or maybe some corporate requirement.
Reminds me of that saying, "If you owe the bank a $1,000 and can't pay it, you are in trouble. If you owe the bank $1,000,000 and can't pay it, the banks in trouble!
I always thought that lying on a loan application to an FDIC insured bank could constitute a federal crime, kind of like lying to the IRS.
Need to see the summary judgement to figure out what the judge was thinking. But since this is a New York case, it could be that the NY AG just got tired of Trump's years of playing it a little too lose and decided that now is the perfect time to give Trump a spanking that will really hurt (actually more like trying to run him out of town). The timing sure does look like some dirty politics, but if you live by the sword, you die by the sword. Even if it was an indictment, 12 grand jury member thought it was a strong enough case to go forward with prosecution. In either case, DJT has a problem that I don't think is going to go away anytime soon.
And this same scenario goes for every indictment he is under right now, regardless of where it originated or will be tried.
DJT is cagey, no doubt. Probably smart enough to not put any directions to do something illegal in written form. That is why there is almost always other people included in the indictment, so they can try to flip them and have them rat DJT out. Already happening in the Georgia case.
And don't forget the last resort for the feds; tax evasion. That is what sent Al Capone to prison. If they want someone bad enough, they will find a way to take them out of play.

Assume that FDT loses the court case and his assets in NY are placed in receivership (other assets outside the state would not be, I would assume).
Assume FDT wins 2024 (we're just making the assumption for argument's sake, not predicting he will).
What could or would he do about this civil fraud case loss?
Does any legal authority even know what his options are?

It's interesting that the judge in this case is a Democrat who was, apparently, elected without opposition. For all I know, he's a stand-up guy, but interesting that this has not been mentioned in any media outlet. To add what Marrisa wrote above, I think prosecutors wouldn't have prosecuted Trump unless they thought they have a 100% chance of conviction.
Trump is a former President.
Who is constantly making threats to witnesses, prosecutors, and judges.
The DOJ did essentially nothing until they were called out after the January 6 Commission finished its investigation and recommended the Trump be criminally charged. Only when Jack Smith was appointed in November 2022 did the DOJ act wholeheartedly.
The Georgia case took forever to collect evidence and present it to the Grand Jury.
The documents cases is a slam dunk, even with overtly biased judge.
Witnesses are flipping now.
I would be surprised if Trump isn't found guilty in every case.

To finish my thought...
Trump specializes in intimidation. He repeatedly calls for violence, knowing that some of his followers will act on his calls for violence.
He's done so to discourage prosecution, yet his offenses are so egregious that these cases moved forward anyway with everyone knowing the risks.
No one would take on this risk unless they felt that the evidence against him is so strong that the public will eventually turn on Trump.

Prosecutors want to either become a judge or transition into a good law firm. Prosecutor pay is a fraction of what they could earn outside. Their win/lose record is their resume. When one is trying to build a career, they would obviously cherry-pick for the best results.
EVERYTHING that we know and hear right now is conjecture, some based loosely on what information is made available to the public, and others based on what we "hope" is the case.
And I agree with you, we will simply have to wait and see. I am sure that there is so much more to the story(s) and we will be surprised when we hear it all, no doubt.
The "tea leaves" that are available to us now paint a pretty convincing story. Cassidy Hutchinson's testimony will be the torpedo that sinks the ship. She has no vested interest in seeing DJT convicted or exonerated, yet her access to the intimate details of what went on the oval office surrounding Jan6 is mind blowing. Innocent people do not act like what she witnessed.
And yes, I know that those MAGA's that want DJT to be the next president, at any cost, will lambaste her and call her everything from a traitor to a street whore, but that really doesn't matter at this point. The only thing that matters is what those 12 jurors think and vote on.
If DJT is so innocent, then what are the MAGA's afraid of? If he is innocent, I think that he would want of fast-track the trials so they are over BEFORE the elections. What better boost in the polls that to be found innocent?
It is pretty obvious that DJT entered the race for the sole of avoiding being indicted in the first place. I can't remember when someone entered the race a full 2 years ahead of the elections.
In the Mueller report findings, the DOJ stated that they will not indict a sitting president. Why would they make that statement if there was really nothing there? DJT got away with it once, so he is trying it again. But he failed to grasp the key term - "sitting." They are not going to allow him to get away with a second time.
What boggles my mind is the overwhelming circumstantial evidence that the diehard MAGA's want to claim is all a set-up and witch hunt. Well, in my opinion, it IS a witch hunt - and the witch is going to burn!
But continue to hold out hope because all it takes is for one diehard MAGA to be on the jury to get it hung. DJT will no doubt spin that as being "exonerated" (like he did with the Mueller report), then try to shut down any re-trials just like he is trying to shut down the debates. This is like watching a rat trapped in a bucket of water desperately trying to find a way out.

And just a common sense view on how things are proceeding now:
We have probably already heard every possible excuse and defense that DJT has on ALL of his cases.
What we will hear in the coming months is all the additional incriminating stuff that is a result of people flipping and becoming witnesses for the state (and feds). Don't be surprised if they even flip Rudy!
It's going to get much, much worse before ever getting better. The only way DJT is going to avoid getting hammered is if the Aaron Hernandez scenario plays out before he is actually goes to trial and is convicted.
And remember, ALL OF THIS has nothing to do with whatever he accomplished as a president, which was arguably pretty good. For those successes, I am glad I voted for him. For the present situation, I am so embarrassed! And the MAGA's can call me a traitor - I call me enlightened! (and I still think President Biden belongs in an extended care facility, and Hunter Biden belongs in prison)
Since prisons are almost always overcrowded, I think it would poetic if DJT and Hunter Biden had to share the same cell!

As Marrisa said, no candidate would ever start campaigning so early. So he did it to block the indictments, which of course didn’t happen.
Interestingly, because Trump ran so early, that promoted Garland to hire Jack Smith to settle the issues raised by the January 6 Commission. Had he not run so early, the DOJ may have continued to drag its feet.
