Trump would accept House speakership for a 'short period' while Republicans decide on a permanent replacement

"I have been asked to speak as a unifier because I have so many friends in Congress," Trump told Fox News Digital. "If they don’t get the vote, they have asked me if I would consider taking the speakership until they get somebody longer-term, because I am running for president."

Tramp should never be in any position in DC. Maybe a trash collector if he can keep his FN mouth shut.

Months after leaving the White House, former President Donald Trump allegedly discussed potentially sensitive information about U.S. nuclear submarines with a member of his Mar-a-Lago Club -- an Australian billionaire who then allegedly shared the information with scores of others, including more than a dozen foreign officials, several of his own employees, and a handful of journalists, according to sources familiar with the matter.

He's probably the best choice the repubs have right now, at least in the short term.

The fact is who would go against him? No one cause no one's going to want to get on the future nominee's bad side.

Course biden and the dems and the senate and zelensky could kiss off any further ukraine money.

We can just fast forward to the part when the story is confirmed and solidified by Trump himself.

The excuse would be that the Trump is allowed to disclosed top secret information to anyone he likes. No crime, right?

When the Liberal media uses the word "allegedly" in the title of a story describing the transgressions of a GOP member,... it means they are covering their own ass from being accused of slander.

It really means that most of the story is bullshit for entertainment molded around a few facts.

In the linked article:

Trump allegedly discussed the submarines with billionaire Anthony Pratt in early 2021, disclosing classified information about how many nuclear armaments they carry and how close they can travel to Russian submarines without being detected.

ABC News reported that Pratt later shared that information with more than a dozen foreign officials, several of his own employees, and multiple journalists. The FBI and Department of Justice prosecutors have questioned Pratt about the information at least twice.

Apparently the Pratt talked about what he learned from Trump with over 40 people. Trump is unbelievably dumb. It’s almost like he wants to be prosecuted. How many of these transgressions amounts to treason?

Allegedly you guys cant stop bagging on Trump.

Here's some real shit that actually did happen in the last ten days...

- The Democrat chair of the foreign affairs committee was charged with taking bribes from a foreign country.

- The DC attorney general has sent subpoenas to Demnocrat dark money giant Arabell Advisors over possible illeagal activity.

- A house Democrat stalled a house proceeding by pulling a fire alarm, a felony.

- Biden's envoy to Iran was outed as an Iranian spy.

- Newsom appointed a Marylander to be California's Senator.

- Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty to a felony gun charge.

- Hunter was also caught listing his daddies home address as the beneficiary on a wire transfer from Communist China.

- A democrat House member was carjacked thanks to an explosion of predatory criminal behavior sparked by Democrat pro-crime policies.

Oh, and Joe Biden is still an utter disaster of a President.

@ GBD
'You gotta be a Member of the House to be the Speaker of the House.'

Not true. The speaker DOES NOT have to be a member of the house. The only thing holding him back would be the rules the repub congress members put in at the beginning of the year specifically Rule 26, which says a member of leadership who has been indicted for a felony that could carry a sentence of two or more years in prison "shall" vacate their position.

So they'd have to change that rule as ISOS said.

I read this comment on a political blog today. I thought it was worth posting here:

History tends to turn leaders into geniuses whether they were good or evil, because most people want to believe you have to be smart to rise to that level of power.

Now, let's think about Trump for a moment. They guy has basically failed upward his entire life, and it is taking extreme measures to hold him to account for anything.

Just imagine somebody like Trump without all the cameras everywhere recording every idiotic thing he's done and said. He would never have even been indicted.

This is how morons like Hitler and Stalin and tons of other world leaders in history get framed as brilliant tacticians. Nah, they are just narcissists in the middle of a crowd of people who are willing to commit violence and looking for someone to point them in the direction of an enemy they can vent their anger on.

Trump is not fit to be Speaker of the House, much less President. The amount of damage he’d do in either position should be obvious to everyone now.

You mean strikes.

When the job market is tight, as it is right now, workers have the power to force companies to raise wages. That is what is happening right now.

Again, please read more. Broaden where you get your news. CNBC is actually pretty conservative, but they have to give more accurate financial information than traditional conservative media.

"@ GBD
'You gotta be a Member of the House to be the Speaker of the House.'

Not true."

Yes true, as explained by 2 senior general counsels that once served both the House and the President back in the day. And, as i relayed to a member here in a private message. Here you go Atticus.

Your "not true" is predicated on a seeming omission in the Constitution, Article I.
However, a number of reasons argue against it.

As a matter of longstanding practice, every speaker has been a member, a tradition that dates to the First Congress (1789-91). This precedent bears heavily on the constitutionality of electing a nonmember as speaker. As the Supreme Court explained in NLRB v. Noel Canning (2014): “The longstanding ‘practice of the government’ . . . can inform [the] determination of what the law is.” That is in line with James Madison’s view that “a regular course of practice” can “liquidate and settle the meaning” of ambiguous constitutional provisions.

Constitutional structure also indicates that the speaker must be a member of the House. Article VI requires constitutional oaths of office only from senators, representatives, state legislators and all federal and state executive and judicial officers. It would make little sense to require an oath of office from these officials while exempting a nonmember speaker. Moreover, Article I vests all “legislative Powers” in the Senate and the House, and the House is “composed of Members” elected every two years. Unlike the “other Officers” elected by the House, like the clerk and the sergeant at arms, the speaker engages in legislative functions. By statute, the speaker must sign enrolled bills before they are presented to the president and administer the oath of office to other members. An enrolled bill signed by a nonlegislator could be vulnerable to legal challenge.

Other legal problems could arise if the speaker isn’t a member. What if the House decided to elect a member of another branch? That would seem to violate the spirit of Article I, Section 6, which prohibits any person “holding any Office under the United States”—meaning certain executive or judicial officers—from being “a Member of either House during his Continuance in Office.” It would be strange to bar a Supreme Court justice from being a member of Congress, but then allow one to serve as the far more powerful speaker.

If the House ignored the Constitution and elected a nonmember speaker, could anything be done? Although federal courts require a plaintiff to show he has standing to bring a legal challenge and won’t adjudicate political disputes, anyone harmed by an enrolled bill signed by a nonmember speaker could challenge the statute’s validity. A business regulated by a new federal law, for instance, could argue that the participation of a speaker who is not a member of the House violates Article I."

The idea that anyone can be elected speaker may be amusing fodder for talk shows, but settled practice, centuries of history and the Constitution’s structure make clear that the speaker’s gavel must remain in the hands of a House member."

This non-member Speaker concept will go nowhere..............Not to mention getting 218 votes for Trump

"Trump is not fit to be Speaker of the House, much less President. The amount of damage he’d do in either position should be obvious to everyone now."

All the very same logic you used in that post could also be applied to FJB, who has failed upward his entire life........although NOT quite as spectacularly as FKH.

There is NOTHING good to be said of someone who's been a Senator their entire working life and wafted with the prevailing winds to maintain his position. This is the very same guy that promulgated laws in the 1990's cracking down on crime (catching his own son in the net just recently on the gun issue)......then essentially completely reneging on everything he stood for back then.

The same can be said of his stance on immigration and college loans and more.

FJB is not nearly as egregious in his monstrations as FDT but his decision making, general lack of any moral stance on any topic and ability to "fuck shit up" (as Obama stated) make him just as poor a President........in his own inimitable fashion.

FJB on cancelling college debt:
"My point is: I understand the impact of debt, and it can be debilitating," Biden said. "I am prepared to write off the $10,000 debt but not $50 [thousand], because I don't think I have the authority to do it." 2021

His signature move was declared unconstitutional by SCOTUS but has that stopped him?
Not in the least as he just cancelled various loans just in the last month.
Less loud than FDT but equally as sleazy, in his own way.

Plus FJB still has an adoring media running cover for him but the patience is wearing thin.

Now FDT was a guy that got along with most everyone including rap singers and the media until the very day he announced he was running for President as a Republican.

From that day forward he was a criminal in the eyes of the media and the entire Liberal establishment.

My post should not be considered some kind of "cover" for FDT.
Just saying that while their "styles" are different, they are both equally and uniquely unqualified to be President.

Did anybody see FJB's "McConnell moment" today?
He basically went into vapor lock and was unable to speak, then mostly gibberish came out.
2024 election will be "Weekend at Bernie's: Part 2 The Cadaver" starring FJB
With FDT playing the part of Biff from "Back to the Future".

The rest of us will be the supporting cast in "Armageddon: Ragnarok"

What GBD is doing here is actually what the most MSM is doing these days, bothsidesism (due to their inability to distinguish the both sides of politics, and also they don't want to be attacked by MAGA violence, and make more money for their useless coverage of what is going on in the US).

And it is also the reflection of Trump and its MAGA tactics of saying that every one of us is corrupt, so what would be the point of blaming Trump attitude.

So GBD is a believer of MAGAism, a fascist at the end or at the most. At this point, we have to take a side in a most distinctive way. Either you want Democracy or Fascism in this country.

[Biden is] Less loud than FDT but equally as sleazy, in his own way

GBD

Using your example, Biden cancelled loans for students to ease the burden they have because the cost of everything (including education) has made it difficult for them to get ahead in life.

How can you call Biden “equally sleazy” as Trump when he’s trying to help others? Trump would rather push students (and disabled veterans) over a bridge or under a bus than help them if he sees no benefit for himself. Trump is a fucking monster, yet you claim Biden is equally sleazy?

It’s statements like these that make me wonder about many of you. Do you think before you make such sweeping generalizations about two totally different people? The best conservatives can do these days is say all politicians are corrupt. No, Republicans are much more corrupt than Democrats. And much less compassionate. And much more violent.

Let’s start calling a spade a spade.

I know you hate Trump, but don’t even think about putting Biden in the same universe as Trump.

McConnell hates MAGA politicians and their supporters, while MAGA supporters hate establishment GOP politicians. McConnell could have gathered enough GOP senators to impeach Trump, but he didn’t do that, because the only thing he cares about is to hang on to political power.

And he thought keeping Trump alive would lead them to GOP’s victory, or maybe he thought that it’s the only viable way for the survival of his party. McConnell doesn’t possess any morality, and he and his party deserve to get crushed under MAGA violence. He and his party are rotten to the core at this point.

Meantime we as voters have to keep defeat them, and that is the only way for us to overcome their fascism and both physical and political violence.

I forgot who said it, but it is quite accurate observation that Trump didn't change Republican Party, he just observed what it is about. Meaning that GOP is all about hanging on to its political power, serving what its wealthier donors, the corporate lobbyists, and White Christian Nationalists want, rather than serving US voters.

Prime example of it is that GOP kept abusing minority rights as opposed to majoritarian rules in the past.

We really ought to change the problems in our constitution, such as US Senate, its filibuster rule, and the life-time tenure in the Supreme Court (though filibuster rule is not in the constitution). Electing two US senators from each state irrespective of its number of the population, and 60 filibuster rule in the Senate always give the minority party (GOP) its advantage. During 8-year Obama Admin, McConnell kept abusing the 60-filibuster rule, and none of the legislations that Democrats proposed were realized. Hence, for example, gun regulation never reached its goal despite so many mass murders in this country and the fact that the most US citizens wanted gun regulation, such as banning semiautomatic assault weapons.

And electing two US senators from each state gave GOP more opportunity to pack the Supreme Court with partisan hacked extremist judges. Federal abortion protection was then overturned, despite the fact that more than 60% of US population supported its Roe v Wade decision.

In conclusion, GOP with declining White Christian population, they took advantage of these minority rights in our constitution (it is called "Minority Rule"), and that is why they are still in business of governing, along with another abuse of Federalism principles (it will give each state equal power as opposed to federal government), but their policies are now in total opposite of what the majority of US population want.

How can you call Biden “equally sleazy” as Trump when he’s trying to help others?"

You are kidding us, right?
How about FJB eases the burden of all my mortgages, business loans, etc. so I can "get ahead in life"? Oh yeah, I forgot.........I FUCKING SIGNED UP FOR THEM AND AGREED TO PAY THEM BACK, lol.

The cost of everything is higher specifically because FJB has gone above and beyond in spending money that the USG does NOT have, passing that thru to all Americans as debt and inflation. He's not the first or the only but it's his Bidenomics.

Look at the stats on this and you'll find out that MOST of the loans are to offspring of the well-off and for advanced degrees. What the fuck are we doing giving THEM welfare on the taxpayer tab?

His plan was declared unconstitutional and yet he proceeds.........please tell me where the 'rule of law" comes into this equation. If we're gonna bury FDT by the "rule of law", can we have some uniformity in how we apply this so-called "law"?

Yeah, FJB is sleazy..........have you ever watched any of his speeches? Mush-mouth, mumbling, vapor-locking, demented idiot. To deny that is to deny reality.........but that's not surprising if you're a Progressive.

Are you a Progressive? Or, just a Democrat. There's a distinct difference, imho

"Households above the median wealth owe the vast majority of student debt. The reasons are intuitive. The most lucrative degreesin medicine, dentistry, and lawtend to be the most expensive.Jan 21, 2022"

Do any of you do ANY homework before you take a policy position?

Why the fuck should the taxpayer (including poor taxpayers, if there are any) cover the cost of wealthy people getting off the hook for their college loans???

I thought you were all AGAINST wealthy people and want to increase their taxes.........and here you are subsidizing them!

WTF is wrong with this picture, just more hypocrisy from the far left or something else?

You know they I’m not progressive. I’m not really even a Democrat. I’m indecent but I lean left for sure.

Again, giving loan breaks is not already, and please send me a link that it mostly helps the wealthy. I know that the student loan forgives program that Biden is pushing going towards people who haven’t been able to pay back loans after 10 or 20 years (not sure). By that time, if you’re wealthy, many would have paid back their loans. And if you’re really wealthy, you didn’t need to even borrow for your education.

Again, these arguments smack of viable excuses that conservatives give to fuck over people. But bail out corporations? Of course they do without hesitation. Stop the bullshit arguments.

Give the money to the people who need it and let it bubble up rather than give it to the wealthy with the hope that it will trickle down (which it has proven not to do).

OK, you're all over the place with your thought process, don't freak out here........k?
We give corporations a break so why not these poor people?
How about we don't bail out corporations instead and don't give either of them a break from what they signed up for?

And, I did include a link about who's getting the break on college debt, did you miss it?
It was right there at the bottom.
High median wealth families are the ones with the most loans and you're for bailing them out even though you hate high wealth families and want to raise their taxes.

This is what's called "cognitive dissonance" and excuse making on your part.

The one thing you did post that I totally understand and agree with is that you're "indecent".
As for leaning left, only yo mama knows for sure down in that basement bathroom.

Agree with you on that, ISOF.
You serve, you get a break.
And, that is one of the groups that FJB included..........and I'm OK with that.
They put in the time for their contractual obligation, they should get a break too.

But this idea of a general cancellation of debt for all college loans is just plain bat-shit crazy.
IF, and this is a big IF, they would fix the college loan problem from the root first........instead, they want to forgive the loans but NOT fix the system that created it.

So, I guess it's like immigration.
Let's give a general amnesty for all illegal immigrants and college loans.
In 10 years, after we have another 10 million NEW illegals and $1 trillion in NEW college loans, well we'll just forgive it all again!!!

Are you fucking nuts?

All that college loan money goes to Admin and huge building projects and college tuition that's increasing at TWICE the rate of inflation for the last 30 - 40 years. Worthless and less than useless admin positions (now at a 500% increase over what they had on a per student basis just 30 years ago) get huge salary increases. Professors get huge salary increases while working 1/4th the time they used to.........all of this bullshit is being fed by the guvmint giving out college loans that you now want to forgive without fixing the underlying problem.

I repeat.........are you fucking nuts?
Already, we know the answer to this question.

so it was all conservatives bailing out the banks...the fucking banks that LEAN into ESG bullshit?

wanna give students a break...start with the schools that charged them the big money...with multibillion-dollar foundations.

sign up for as a VA doctor...sign up for the military...there are ways to get things paid off. some of us had to work hard to pay off loans like that.

think wife still has like 10k due on a 30year 2.5percent loan. they weren't calling to cancel her loan...so what up with that?
