It wasn't ransom. It was a blockade on the release of funds from South Korea. SK is our ally so they held the payment up until we gave the go ahead to release the funds. "Ransom" is just a right wing talking point. Zero US dollars were involved and the money rightfully belonged to Iran to begin with. They sold oil to SK and we convinced SK to not pay them until we agreed.

It's a SANCTION. Meant to curtail Iran's support of terrorism by withholding the money and support peaceful endeavors by releasing it. So you tell me, did releasing it work?
And even if none of that money went directly towards terrorism, do you suppose that maybe the Iranians used money that was originally meant for legitimate purposes, but then funneled that money to Hamas knowing that they'd get 6B released by Biden?
