I think we should send them weapons but would make it contingent on an aid package to Ukraine as well. Israel and the Palestinians have essentially been at war since 1948 when Israel declared an independent state. That region has been the center of almost continual conflict for thousands of years. How come, all of a sudden, it's Obama's or Biden's fault?
If anything, Hamas was paying attention to Israel's recent problems with judicial reform and thought they could catch the Israeli military off-guard, or at least distracted. That, coupled with our problems of a dysfunctional government (both sides to blame, but some more than others), make us appear to be really distracted.
I realize that the measures taken by Israel in the last couple of days (and in the days to come) might seem draconian. Innocent Palestinians are paying the price for the actions taken by Hamas. Hopefully the Palestinian people will finally realize that Hamas is not the kind of friend that they need and will run them out of town.
As long as Hamas, and/or Hezbollah are involved there can be no peace.
