Just because they are lawyers doesn't mean they aren't human.
The weaponized DOJ and their cohorts charge everyone to the hilt. They are not interested in convictions, they are only interested in destroying the Trump 2024 campaign.
These folks are collateral damage. But like I said, they are human. The defense to charges like these can run in the millions of dollars. So in essence, you're risking everything you've worked for and saved, so when you can negotiate a plea that's nothing more than a slap on the hand, a few hours of community service, and zero jail time...and you won't go broke in the defense costs!
So the "guilty" pleas are really worthless...it's a coerced confession, manipulated by the system. The same as General Michael Flynn. A hero in our country, they weaponize against him. He is willing to lose everything, and be made poor...and then they threatened to go after his son on some trumped up charges...so he buckled and took a plea. A plea says guilty...but the plea maker, if asked, will almost always say, "I'm innocent...it was coerced because of finances."

That could very all be well and true but they've all made proffers to the prosecution. A proffer is an offering of what they've done, what they're willing to testify to, and all of that leads to trump lol. He can't plea, it would destroy his inner narcissist id to much so he's going to have to face ALL of those that plead guilty in court. Good luck with that lol

If he's found guilty there's still some possibility that he gets some type of house arrest situation as his secret service protection will be a factor in any sentencing. Him catching a prison shiv is highly unlikely.

As Iwan.t previously stated, Trump not likely to go to jail and when all is said and done,
the SCOTUS will overturn the convictions.
The Clintons and the Bidens are crooks and nothing is going to happen to them,
so I doubt that very much will be done to Trump. Most of us know that
the indictments against Trump are politically motivated and lacking in
substance.
Many of you should be more concerned about the Biden admin. policies
that will bring more misery to many.

There would be a range of options but sooner is better, clock is ticking.
Another gradual rise in qualification age might be in order for SS (like they did in the 80's), along with some funding increase and partial freeze in COLA.
The longer they wait, the harder the math becomes.

There's several Texas counties that bailed early on before Congress closed the loophole and their system earns something like 4 - 5 times the SS rate of return. Should look at that too.
Nothing can be sacred at this point, if you're in agreement that there needs to be a system like this one.

Personally I have no skin in the game either way. As a career criminal I've only filed like 6-7 tax returns in my entire life so I don't qualify for SS benefits either way. I just think means testing seems to be the easiest solution towards solvency. But wouldn't argue with raising the requirements age to collect benefits or even slightly lowering them. But as a simple means of fairness to those that already paid in I don't think the system should be allowed to fall. I don't view SS as an entitlement but rather earned income that people who paid into the system are owed

Agree there would need to be a phase in due to existing pay-ins.
You can view it anyway you like but it's not an entitlement nor earned income. By law, Congress could stop it anytime, course that's political suicide. It's the classic definition of a Ponzi scheme. Without payments in by workers now, it collapses. There is no trust fund, prior money paid in does not go in an account for your benefit, it's smoke and mirrors. FDR knew this and, by means of the payroll tax, it was designed to be as difficult as possible to dismantle. He even said so.....(see quote below)

I had read about some part (s) of Texas opting out but never cared enough to find out what they replaced it with. Read your linked article, looks like they picked a winner. Would it not be possible to revisit the legislation that closed the opt out so it could be replicated on a nationwide scale?

You remember the stink when Bush said "hey, we got a problem" 20 years ago and tossed out the idea of private personal investment accounts for everybody? It was not pretty.
Retired millionaires have Fidelity or Vanguard 401k accounts, not fixed income accounts at 1.5% like SS. Of course, there would have to be accommodations made for low-income workers to help them build bigger accounts but SS needs help from the bond and stock markets to hit its payout goals without the system collapsing or an abrupt 25% payout cut in 11 years.
The foundation of the system is trust in the Feds and a 25% cut would not be beneficial to that trust.

Honestly, there are critics of the Texas County model due to the disparity between higher income savers and low income savers. But, it still appears to raise all boats and I don't think ANY system can be designed to create equal income for all.
Don't forget that in retirement, higher income gets your SS taxed as soon as you pass a pretty low threshold.
High income earners do subsidize the SS system overall.

I agree, no system can ever be designed for income equality. But there really shouldn't be one imo. Isn't that the point of living life? To find your way and earn what you make ass your due? I get income inequality, wherein the rich get richer while the poor get stuck in place. CEO pay, etc., etc, etc... But I don't see any point in living life if you can't do it on your own
