Very sad
This is the north hangar at Valencia / Armstrong that is involved in the fire, it's close to the Stater Brothers shopping center. The hangar close to the Amalfi is still there and
was not involved with this very sad fire
Built during World War 2, and still owned by the Navy, it's burnt so much now that it will never be rebuilt either. We're literally seeing a historical site burning to the ground
|
|
A lot of dirty dirt under those hangers, doubt there will be condos there anytime soon.
|
|
Burned down for the insurance money.
Cheaper than demolishing it.
|
|
North Hanger owned by the County
South Hanger is City of Tustin
Make sense to let it burn since it is all wood and very dangerous.
Plus I am sure there was plenty of potential toxic issues since it was built in 1942
I am sure asbestos and old jet fuel absorbed into the beams.
17 stories high so the roof collapsed pretty quickly.
Figure the best option for the City would be to sell tickets and do a Las Vegas style implosion.
Plus some movie studios could use some footage for future productions.

The fire is so toxic. They wanted to demolish them back in the day but the cost to contain the Toxic material would have been too much. They said they would have had to build a tent around it to demolish it because the dust would have been so toxic.
So they burned it down and now a few years from now everyone down-wind will get cancer and start dropping like flys just like 911 first responders.
Not good, especially if it was an inside job. I feel for anyone in that area that could smell the smoke or see debris in the air.

Sad day, I loved those hangers.
|
|
In Redlands, they have a Hanger24. They better not touch that one.
I blame Hamas and the hangerbangers.
I don't live in roboTustin, I use to exit the toll road there many times. I always hoped they would never take them down.

No more maintenance cost for the County is the good news

Hangar
|
|
rideme is absolutely correct.
A “hangar” is a large enclosed structure for aircraft, while a “hanger” is an object used for hanging clothes.
|
|
Hanger. Hangar. Hangur. 220. 221. It's all the same.
|

Butz Batz Bitz
Whatever

When we get the real story here, it's going to be interesting !
|
|
The Hangar is / was owned by the US Navy !
From the LA Times :
Thick smoke billowing from the hangar, which is owned by the U.S. Navy, was visible across the region. The sounds of the wood lattice that held up the roof collapsing echoed throughout the surrounding neighborhoods like tidal waves crashing along the shore.
|
|
Sad day. I was giddy as a puppy when I saw the hangar's appearance in Independence Day (1996), starring Mrs. Pinkett.
@FernandaFuentes You got a point right there. I also thought at first of a lone crazed arsonist. But zoning laws aside, like @Edmond Dantes duly noted, the hangars were built by & property of the US Navy & used by US Marines.
Destruction of a military installation is no laughing matter. If it were some nutcase, I would hope he/she would've been found by now.
But then again, I could be ____.

High Density Apartments coming soon. Some 30 thousand have been in the planning stages that will make up OC's first 15 minute city.
|
|
I would need an extra 5 mins because I walk with a limp.
20 minute city or nothing.
|
|
the next thing to disappear are golf courses especially those owned by cities or municipalities, the developers will make them an offer the can refuse, or they will claim eminent domain and just seize the property
|
|
I've heard that Rancho San Joaquin in Irvine just might take a developer's offer. RSJ is owned by American Golf Corp, and the information has been out there for a couple of years, but The Irvine Company will have final say on what goes on in their city !
|
|
back in the 70's it was the marine corp helicopter base
my best friend was stationed there
the city of tustin always wanted to annex the property to build homes and a shopping center from the time i lived there back then
|
|
LOL @ Hey0 TOS'ing again
|
|
RSJ Golf course is no longer owned by American Golf, they sold to local owners some years ago.
And, City of Irvine recommitted to original zoning plan some years ago too.
That course will never change
Maybe they can put up high-rise condos with flashing lights at the old Ben Brown's?
|
|
Triple stack for the deletion of Hey0's post as a MAJOR TOS
Freaking mental cripple

|

Now, I'm out!
|
|
4 in a row, I'm back!
New handle will be H.A.N.G.U.R.
|

Hang who?
And why is creeper so angury

The developers and corrupt government officials are relentless. Every inch of oc will be high density housing before long. They don't care about toxic waste or anything else except $. And of course Newsom is the worst because of the so-called "housing shortage" while people are leaving the state by the thousands. Newsom prolly paid a homeless guy to burn it down. RIP hangers.
|
|
they NEED to hunt these fuckers down
i say both KNEES...painful and permanent
|
|
The hangers are huge. I was there years ago when the Goodyear blimp was in for repairs. I could not believe how small it looked compared to hanger. At the same time they were flying remote control airplanes in a different section.

It sucks, doesn't it? To slowly see what you grew up with, getting demolished for no good reason.
Do we honestly need more fucking people populating what is over populated already. All the are doing is building homes for a bunch of fucking foreigners, who are given government grants to settle in a new country. Asians get Donuts shops and buffets. Arabs get 7-ELEVEN and AMPM. Middle easterns get liquor stores and carnecerias. Armenians get, well, I don't know what they fucking get cause I never visit Glendale.
While white Americans get a nice trailer park, food stamps, and Molina medical. The blacks get 3 hots and a cott. The Mexicans get home depot. And that's pretty much that.
Can anyone here actually afford living in OC? Of course. Because you have to work 2 fucking jobs, that's how. Or perhaps, your parents left you an inheritance.
Anyway, you are not who those condos are being built for.
But then, I could be wrong.

How's the weather up in rainy gray shitty cold Humboldt?
Horrible down here today in OC.
Had to deal with a lot of sun and all the way up to the mid 70's.
Just terrible
Hoping to plop my single wide next to you at the Happy Humboldt Trailer Park soon.

I live very near to the Rancho San Joaquin Golf Course, close enough to hear their speakers call for Tee Times. Drive by the course, lots of money is being spent to upgrade and new club restaurant is on the way. Driving Range is full many evenings. I am of the opinion that some homeless were living in the hangar, and cooking or heating fire got out of control. My mom used to go see the “Big Bands” play inside during WWII. Notably Tommy Dorsey, they could fit a large number of people in and still a couple of Blimps as well. Family has lived in the OC 8 generation’s now. A new sixty thousand home in 1974 is over one point two five million currently. 1500 square feet. Been a good ride.

+1 bird.
Black Rock and Vangrad to the rescue.

I love seeing all these free market capitalists against real estate development.
|
|
Not me, but stop trying to force people into high-density no-parking bullshit
Idiots in Sacramento scream about more housing but only the "type" they want
CalEPA, CARB, regs sent down from Sac cause home development to take YEARS longer than it should......if you can get it approved locally at all.
Newport Beach effectively killed Banning Ranch on the west side
Local planning departments can slow walk your project to death, I know this from experience.
Free market capitalism is a myth in Cali, no longer exists.
|
|
Free market capitalism is Somalia.

Socialism is North Korea and Venezuela and Zimbabwe and China and Cuba and nobody who is sane believes what you just posted but nice try.

Is your pic a meme on the old movie "The God's Must Be Crazy"?

I'm just curious.

Looks like the US Navy will be held responsible for the exposure of pollutants to the residences and businesses in nearby Tustin.
ORANGE COUNTY, CA — Today, Representatives Lou Correa (CA-46) and Young Kim (CA-40) led a bipartisan letter to Department of the Navy’s Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Coordinator Elizabeth Roddy asking the Navy’s plans to mitigate impacts of the recent fire at the former Marine Corps Air Station, which is owned by the Navy, in Tustin, CA.
“[W]e were devastated to learn that one of the historic hangars at the air station caught fire, and later that the blaze was too significant for firefighters to preserve the structure. Most of the structure has collapsed and is beyond repair,” the members wrote. “This is a somber event for the community, as many current residents are veterans who served at this air station.”
Led by Reps. Correa and Kim, the letter was also signed by Orange County Representatives Michelle Steel (CA-45), Katie Porter (CA-47), Linda Sanchez (CA-38), and Mike Levin (CA-49), as well as Southern California Representatives Ken Calvert (CA-41), Jay Obernolte (CA-23), Mike Garcia (CA-27), and Raul Ruiz, M.D. (CA-25).
“We are deeply concerned about the environmental impact of this fire and about the release of pollutants in Tustin and the surrounding areas that could impact our constituents’ health,” they added. “Ash and debris from the fire have fallen on residents’ properties and are getting into their homes.”
In their letter, the Members requested that the Department brief and provide written responses to the below questions:
Does the Navy have information regarding the building materials that were used to construct the hangar, including asbestos?
Is the Navy in contact with the South Coast Air Quality Management District regarding tests for toxic materials, and regarding the positive test for asbestos?
Does the Navy have a plan for cleaning up the site and mitigate effects to surrounding communities?
Does the Navy have a community engagement plan to ensure that our affected constituents are regularly informed of the Navy’s efforts to clean up the site, and to ensure that health concerns coming from the community are addressed?
Does the Navy plan on joining the coordinated incident command with the County of Orange to assist the County with emergency environmental mitigation? If yes, can the Navy provide a timeline for the response?
What does the Navy intend to do with the site after the cleanup is finished?

A letter in response to address your concerns.
Dept of Defense in care of The USN:
Dear California politicians and Orange County Pussies. You can all kiss my big black ass, and while you are at it, go fuck yourselves in the left ear with a right handed dildo.
As of current, we the USN are busy in foreign waters launching F35 Black Widows terrorizing small countries. In other words, we are doing what we are supposed to do. Let me reiterate, stop being Orange County Pussies and be more like the IE and just shut the fuck up and deal with it.
Thank you and don't forget to MAGA.

Tustin will become the new Camp Lejeune.
|

And take 20 years to settle the coming law suit.
