^ That is certainly true. But those people in the wings and waiting for their turn on the throne are not totally stupid. They will learn (hopefully) from Putin's mistakes and understand the ramifications of heavy sanctions. This will cause them to rethink strategies in order to minimize the impact of sanctions, which might take 10 years to fully develop. At least we could have 10 years of peace (maybe) before they start acting stupid again.

If they'd worked that might be true but ... they haven't. Russia's gdp has grown astronomically regardless of the sanctions because they're selling their oil to india, china and ... us - they ship their oil to the saudi's who in turn sell it to us.
