From 1976 to 2000, we had 24 cat 4 hurricanes in the Atlantic, but fortunately only 5 made landfall (21%).
1951 to 1975, we had 23 cat 4 and 11 made landfall (48%)
From 2000 to present, including Ian, we have had 32 hurricanes, but unfortunately, 13 made landfall (41%).
Our measuring of hurricanes is far more accurate today then prior, so we are probably identifying a few more in the Cat 4 because of our weather technology.
We have just been a little more unlucky with more making landfall, which has NOTHING to do with climate change, rather a matter of luck of where the storm moves.

I wonder how many of you actually been through one.
I've been through 3 of these. 1 Cat 1, 1 Cat 3 and 1 Cat 4
We lost power for 2 weeks in the middle of August. Boats sunk, roofs blown off. trees down, lots of stuff to clean up. Old people died. It took months to put it all back together and even a couple years later you could still see tarps on roofs.
You can hate the governor all you want but to wish that the rest of the state remain in shambles just because you dont like their politics is messed up.
What if the Big One finally happens here and this place becomes a nightmare? Would you want the rest of the country to turn their backs on us because they dont like CA politics?

i did see a home last big hurricane that was the only one standing...so they probably need to do better at preparing for this and not putting anyone in harm's way when it can be avoided...like get the fuck out of the area and not make put rescue teams in danger.
