President Donald Trump shot down Russian attempts to trade former Marine Paul Whelan for “Merchant of Death” arms dealer Viktor Bout, former national security adviser John Bolton said Thursday — as Trump ripped his successor for agreeing to send Bout home in exchange for the return of WNBA star Brittney Griner.
Bolton recalled in an interview with CBS that he was in the midst of his 17-month tenure at the White House when Whelan was detained on concocted espionage charges in December 2018.

Bolton agreed with Trump's decision because there's no way in hell any trade should involve letting Bout go free.
Bolton's comments from attached story...

Fast forward to now where Biden MAKES a trade giving Bout away and does NOT get Whelan back is a total embarrassment to this nation. It sets a bad tone that will encourage evil doers to attack Americans abroad.
Add to that when the story first broke NBC first reported that the WH had a choice of "Griner or Whelan" but later walked the story back to "Griner of no deal" just like the total flub when Dem's had to juggle the narrative when the Paul Pelosi attack story broke.

Biden caved big time and may have squandered the possibility to get Griner AND Whelan for Bout.
But letting Bout free should have been a non starter period.

Regarding Bout.... he is quite possibly the single largest not head of state mass murderer in history... he sold weapons to any and everyone... he is responsible for arming drug cartels worldwide. Dude had 60 cargo planes stationed throughout the world that he could use to parachute drop munitions anywhere in the world within an hour.
Just context regarding the type of person we have let loose. He will probably be traveling freely with the exception of Europe and North America very soon. Everyone in South America and Africa should rest easy tonight.

So the moron in the WH shipping Billions to Time Magazine's "man of the year" just freed another man who could help front line Russian troops.

Bout had been in prison for 14 years. I wonder how easy it will be for him to get back into the game and cause any real damage. The arms business has to be pretty tight and I imagine that a lot of the old players are either in prison themselves, retired, or dead. It would be a world of difference in letting him out after only serving 2-4 years vs. 14 years. His contacts have probably gone stale. Even the weapons systems have changed. And all those guys that essentially took his place are not going to let him reassume his prior position without a fight! By releasing him now, we may have just given him a death sentence.
