Seems it's only Southwest as all other airlines reported few cancellations.
The linked story attributed the cause to Southwest's point-to-point business model causing domino cancellations whereas other airlines that operate with hubs can pick up slack with cancellations.
Have no fear... fudge packer Pete is on top of this at the Dept of Transportation.

No, its slang for a guy who was AWOL from his job as Transportation Secretary during all of last years supply chain crisis. Parental leave was more important than the needs of Americans.

Glad to know that is the responsibility of government officials to tell private companies that their business models are amiss and that their IT infrastructure is out-of-date and way underfunded. Go ahead and complain that Pete should have compelled Southwest, by regulation, to change their fucking business model and had the appropriate IT investment. LOL

I was in Italy till today. Arrived in Philadelphia just now and my flight to LAX was cancelled.
Flying into San Diego at midnight tonight but still need a ride to the OC. Anyone available for a lift tonight or tomorrow morning? I can stay in sd 1 night or go home tonight.

Boarded plan at 9:30. Before we even left pilot said it looks like we have a problem and will not be flying. Looks like I’m in Philly for an evening.

Southwest fucked up all my plans to be at the Sun Bowl on Friday 
Luckily, I was able to get my hotel and car refunded, and I have friends in El Paso that I could
forward the tickets to the Sun Bowl too...

I stop flying southwest for awhile after my last experience. Plane was late, rude flight attendants, we head to the takeoff lane and end up turning back because pilot realized the door didn’t completely shut. Back at the gate you hear and see them try to fix the door. Door “fixed” we go back to take off lane and captain announces we missed our window so we end up waiting more. Finally take off was short flight to Vegas, but probably one of the roughest landings I’ve experienced like people heads bobbing around hard and people screamed. Guy behind me is military pilot and he starts going off on how either the pilot is drunk or just plain ignorant with everything that’s happen. At this point everyone is ready get off this plane from hell. Guess what that fixed door? Won’t open. Burned in my seat for another hour and half and to finally exit through back end. No compensation offered from southwest either. Wouldn’t recommend them even to my worst enemies. The cheap flight wasn’t worth the incompetence

I've only flew on South West once. My wife was attending a wedding somewhere north of San Francisco so I left my car at Ontario and drove her to San Francisco Airport. She threw me out and left me standing there. Anyway I flew back to Ontario on South West.

Someone from the Congressional House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee finally blasts Southwest and the DoT for taking so long to respond to the public...
"It took four days and thousands and thousands of cancellations for DOT to finally speak up. Same thing, it took four days for the CEO of Southwest to finally speak up, I hope at some point the government when we are intervening and looking at some of these issues that we are more efficient and more effective.'
It seems par for officials in the Biden administration to just bury thier heads when problems arise. They seem to not want to be onstage and associated with adversity .

I've been flying Southwest for about 50 years, not my first choice in air travel, but they and Jet Blue are the BEST run airlines around.
Period.
Southwest has flourished in the deregulation era (CAB being eliminated), especially as the wright amendment was eased/ eliminated.
It's a complicated industry, and it's so amusing to see people opine on how "bad" Southwest is, yet have no understanding of the industry.
Keep Government regulation out of it & well run airlines (like Southwest & Jet Blue) will continue to flourish & thrive.

I fly UNITED!
