I don't see anything in your statement about exceptions being made for taking classified documents by accident (assuming Joe wasn't stretching the truth), nor for (ahem), owning up to a mistake.

Biden's said docs were held at a UPENN office that didnt become his office until 2018. So the docs also sat somewhere else from Jan 2017 until finally making it to the "office" which had little if any security and the Chinese embassy is a few blocks away.
Money was funneling in through this office from China and others. Biden probably 'found' the docs cause he sent his lawyers in to close the office down... in the middle of his Presidency. ).gif)

Consider the political context in which Mr. Smith must now make a prosecutorial decision. Hillary Clinton’s private server exposed classified material, but the FBI absolved her in 2016. Now we learn Mr. Biden’s private office contained classified material that someone mishandled.
Is Smith, who answers to Biden through AG Garland, really going to indict Trump for mishandling documents while Biden is absolved? Legal nuances aside, the underlying offense is far too close for safe political comfort. Barring new evidence in the Mar-a-Lago case, half the country would conclude the sitting President is prosecuting his chief political competitor for an offense that he also committed.

He refused to turn them back in so the FBI had to go get them from Mirage-a-Lego! It was funny reading the HX Trumpster on this blog saying that the documents were guarded by the Secret Service! President Biden's staff did the right thing by turning the documents in to the Archives immediately and DOJ is going to do their investigation. Unlike the Orange Man who kept saying that our nuclear secrets belonged to him! I can't believe Mike Pussy Pence tried to say that there was a double standard by the Archives and DOJ. He forgot that Trump wanted his punk ass in a box six feet under.

I guess it was also not worth mentioning that the documents were found in early November, about a week before the midterms. So it’s not as though the public was immediately notified. Even the NYT asked why the WH waited two months to notify the DOJ.
But CNN has Joe’s back. Sort of. They described the news as a “headache” for Biden. Poor guy.

Well since we have an (untrained) cadre here that specialize in conspiracy theories let's try this one on for size:
#45 realizes that he is truly fucked about having those classified documents. Every one of his legal arguments have been shut down by the courts. His excuses are now falling on deaf ears. His legal strategies in his entire life have been to delay or obfuscate investigations and court proceedings until the plaintiffs, prosecutors, or judges get so bored with it that they give up, but they are not working now. There is only one avenue left for preventing a successful prosecution.
His excuse of “every other president has done the same thing so why are you picking on me?” would have been his best chance of killing the investigation but it didn’t gain much traction. So, why not elevate it to the highest level?
The solution is actually rather simple. Find an old, unused office for the current president (an office he used as vice-president), an office that is not used anymore and has little if no traffic. Do a reverse Watergate type action and have someone plant a classified file there THAT HE STILL HAD IN HIS POSSESSION even after the FBI raid. Leak a hint to someone in the DOJ then sit back and watch the theatrics. The waters get so muddied that prosecuting #45 now is almost impossible.
This sort of a thing might seem like nothing more than a spy novel, but when you consider that #45 and the MAGA hardliners actually tried to overthrow the U.S. Government; hell – this would have been a cake walk for them to pull off!

Those who support the Dems will probably tell us that the Repubs have twisted the truth.
The Repubs have a tough road ahead. I'll be impressed if any high level offical goes
to jail inspite of the evidence that will be uncovered.
If Trump goes to jail, so will Biden.
Can you imagine Garland saying that he will prosecute Trump but not Biden
because he is the AG and can use his discretion on who to prosecute.

Any records the present (or vice president) create - written or electronic do NOT belong to them. They are subject to the PRA - presidential records Act.
Imagine we were talking a laptop that was left - that would probably get more press.
My point is there all this crap is covered by law that presidents & vice presidents must follow.
Any "governmental furnished equipment" must be tracked and procedures are there if lost or misplaced.
Every SINGLE governmental issued computer, or cell phone is subject to these rules, and EVERY governmental employee (including Biden/ Trump) must take annual training & pass a certification that they will abide by the rules.
Any document that goes through his hands is NOT his, it's "ours" the countries and fall under the PRA.

I think the main difference is that Biden lawyers were the first to discover the classified material and immediately notified the DOJ of it. Proactively addressing the problem is a lot different than taking them offsite then refusing to return them after multiple requests and subpoenas to do so.
But it is still fucked up! They should not have been there at all!

The term to describe this tactic is using a False Equivalency, which is chronically done by Republicans. Biden didn’t do anything near what Trump did with the Top Secret classified documents. But wouldn’t you deflect like this if you have to answer for the shitstorm of criminality committed by Trump?
