David Crosby broke up every band he ever played with. Abused other members with his extra large ego.
|
|
^Yup. Graham Nash said of Crosby - He's just a terrible human being.
That tells you all you need to know about him.

i don't know about the terrible human part, he played a major role in getting drew barrymore cleaned up from her addiction problems ages ago. that in itself is a positive thing. do we know that graham has a sparkling reputation ??? or is he bitter about songwriting credit ?? nash to CSNY is what potsie was to happy days....

I remember the first time my high school friend played the CSN&Y record in his rooml; you know you're getting old when your teenage heros are checking out - RIP.

Well, Neil Young's said pretty much the same thing in a different interview.
Too, Nash is the one who knew Crosby the longest as they were in several other bands before CSN & CSNY starting in their 20's.

I acknowledge that David Crosby was a talented musician, but his reputation of being a total ass earlier in his life was well-earned. Having numerous family members in the entertainment industry, his reputation for treating roadies, stagehands and other performers like dirt got him into verbal and physical altercations on more than one occasion...

Crosby was one of those talented artists whose superb writing, singing and being part of a R&R HOF harmony band raises him to an earned level. Likewise with his personal actions with people in the business took serious (being there) ... and whose personal habits drove others in the business to considered him a jerk and narcissist. Neil was not a joiner - he clashed with Crosby because Crosby was big of his own work which wasn't in sync with the others. And Graham? Well, he went from lead singer with the Hollies to one of fourstars in a group who didn't contribute to the band as much as Stills, Crosby and Young when he joined in. I have a friend who knows him and considers him a nice man with some deep insecurities.
Graham's best work probably was that album he cut with Crosby that donated revenue to climate groups, especially saving the habitats of whales, dolphins and other sea creatured. It was a good album just hearing how good Crosby was and how much better one thought of Nash because his work stood out in a dp then a quartet.
RIP Crosby. Could take a piss at times but in general was a legend of the times.

"Graham? Well, he went from lead singer with the Hollies to one of four stars in a group who didn't contribute to the band as much as Stills, Crosby and Young when he joined in."
WRONG. Nash didn't "join in." He started CSN from the beginning (duh, thus his name is included!). And he wrote & sang lead on more of the CNS/CSNY hits than anyone.
Grooviefan, see above.
Plus, do you know which of the 4 members of CSNY never wrote or sang the lead on a Top 40 hit for the group or solo? CROSBY.

Nash was invited to join when Crosby & Stills saw him play
As usual, Koala God is just a human who likes getting butt-sexed
Which has affected his mind

GoBallsDeepInMyAssCosILoveItCosImAFag,
The Koala God was not talking to you. Do not talk to a God like me unless you are addressed first.

ALL of your versions of how CSN was formed are WRONG, WRONG WRONG WRONG!
Steven Stills knew Crosby because they crossed paths when Stills was in Buffalo Springfield and Crosby was in the Birds. In '67 Crosby was kicked out of the Birds and Buffalo Springfield was playing at the Monterey Pop festival, because Neil Young had quite Springfield earlier, Stills asked Crosby to fill in.
By '68 Buffalo Springfield broke up and Stills and Crosby started getting together to jam and write songs together.
Crosby met Graham Nash when he was still with the Birds and they were touring in England and Nash was still with the Hollies. When the Hollies were touring in California, Nash looked up Crosby and renewed their friendship.
Nash met Stills at a party in Laurel Canyon. As the story goes, Nash was 'captivated' by Stills because he was 'banging the shit out of a piano'.
At another party thrown by either Joni Mitchell or Cass Elliot, stories vary, Stills and Crosby got up and sang a Stills song - You Don't Have to Cry or another one it depends on who's telling the story. Anyway, they did it 3 times but after the 2nd Nash had learned the lyrics and had worked out a new harmony and got up and sang with Stills and Crosby. All 3 say that they saw that their voices 'jelled' after 30 seconds into the song. But Nash was still in the Hollies and went off to continue the tour. In late '68, according to Nash, he quit the Hollies over 'creative differences' and 2 days later flew to LA and hooked back up with Stills and Crosby and they started rehearsing.
The reason for the name - Crosby Still and Nash is because none of them wanted to be tied to a 'band' again and they figured if they used their last names it would show that they're still independent and if one of the quit or was thrown out the group would have to dissolve instead of going on like the Birds or the Hollies did.
There! Hope that's settled. Not Crosby Still or Nash formed the group it formed itself so to speak.

nash was never lead singer in the hollies, he was rhythm guitar and vocalist as part of their 3 part harmony
allan clarke was lead singer
nash left to join crosby and stills in '68 after buffalo springfield split up
and it was the BYRDS
neil young was added in '69 as second choice to steve winwood (spencer davis group, traffic, blind faith)
|
|
Not according to Nash - he left the hollies because he clashed with the other band members over the direction they were going. Fortunately he had a place to land after singing with Stills and Crosby at Joni's or Cass's party.
Young was brought in in '69 yes but reluctantly, according to Stills & Crosby, because they needed a key board player for the 2nd album - Deja Vu. Reluctantly I'm guessing cause Stills and Young we're members of Springfield and they clashed?
As far as the name - birds or byrds - don't care. Never got into them or Roger McGuinn/Chris Hillman. Did think it was funny that they tried copying CSN when they came out as McGuinn, Clark & Hillman, though.

I met him briefly 25 years ago, and YES he was an asshole.
A guy I know was the band’s longtime road manager.
Crosby gave the guy his start almost 50 years ago and he will also tell you Crosby was a dick.
|
|
In his younger days, Crosby had the face of an entitled Peter Puffer. That's why his long time friend was Ethridge. I know while Crosby was puffing peters Ethridge was having clam chowder.
An appropriate meal for the two.
|
|
maybe crosby was angry being short, he was 5'8, seemingly much shorter than everyone else in the byrds and csn
never met him myself, so no opinion on his behavior, other than what's published

Dude was talented AF!! Did time, played in awesome bands, forget that petty stuff now!! Does not matter at all, RIP brother!!!
