I’ll be visiting San Francisco feb 14 -18
I’m wondering if anyone has recommendations for upscale hotels that don’t require key access ? Preferably fisherman’s wharf area. Please pm to everyone doesn’t know where I am staying xoxo

Really want to be careful about those hotels that are keyless in SF.

Either they have security with nothing better to do than give people are hard time, or bad actors looking to get into rooms and plunder. My Bay Area clients are mostly hospitality restaurants, and crime is up.

"Really want to be careful about those hotels that are keyless in SF."

Anything upscale in that area will have a lot of security including limited access to elevators without a key card/swipe, The days of giving an elevator code to your guests are gone now. There is also visitor registration with ID check in most lobbies.

Add parking restrictions, etc. and it is just not hobby friendly. That is my recent experience.

I stay in Pleasanton or San Mateo. Much safer and less intrusive on protecting your privacy. Also your guests won't be so concerned with their cars getting jacked or towed in DTSF.

Im pretty sure the warwick off of geary street is good. I also I highly recommend San Jose if your in the Bay Area. The wyndham garden by the airport or the ac hotel downtown.

My car was broken into when I parked on the street in San Francisco a couple of years ago during a business trip/vacation. All my luggage and laptops were stolen. Luckily I had my backpack with my camera gear on me when I was walking around the city.

I recommend avoiding the City. I'd also recommend avoiding Oakland and Berkeley as those areas have parking issues.

Instead, I would recommend Sunnyvale. I usually stay at one of the two Residence Inns, or the Radisson on Chesapeake Terrace. With all the layoffs at the tech companies and clients doing remote meetings thru Zoom, the hotels in Sunnyvale can't command the higher rates like they used to. Plus the hotels in Sunnyvale usually don't charge for parking, so visitors who are stopping by for an hour or so won't have any issues. Access to these hotels are also very good since they are all clustered around the major freeways, like the I-101 and Lawrence Expresss Way, etc.

If you can't get a hotel in Sunnyvale, you can just follow the I-101 to see all the hotels just off any off-ramps on the freeway. The Residence Inn (Redwood City) near the San Carlos municipal airport is a good example, alternative to stay at. Nice and quiet.

I recommend you skip sf altogether and go a little further to Sonoma.

SF's a SHIT HOLE town and getting worse by the minute.
While you're at it avoid Berkeley - the only nice place in town is the campus. Oakland's a shit pit as well, although the idiots in texas think it's great which shows what idiots they are.

I always stay in the Marina district. Maybe just 1 mile from the western edge of Fisherman's Wharf area (Ghirardelli Square). And a block from there is an area with 4-hrs free parking. It's quiet, families and singles, Shops and restaurants 1 block over on Chestnut St. Only a few hotels, mostly motels (free parking). If you're tired, the Muni buses run until very late.

If you're Okay with a nice, clean, relatively accessible place that has plenty of tourist traffic that your visitors will blend right into no matter what time of day or night, then this non-chain Hotel is EXCELLENT.

It's minutes from the Golden Gate, Very non-descript, no drama with plenty of parking which is HUGE anywhere in San Francisco

https://cowhollowmotorinn.com/

It's also, right around the block (3 min walk) from a Great Steak House

https://www.izzyssteaks.com/location/izzys-steakhouse-san-francisco/

I don't entirely agree with Sir Finch. I believe his Majesty is just not accustomed to associating with the "Hoi Polloi". Although I can't deny that his description of SF, Oakland & Berkeley is on point with some very specific portions or pockets of those cities, all three also have areas in those same Cities that put even the most affluent places here in So Cal to shame.

Pacific Heights, Pill Hill, Oakland Hills, Claremont (NorCal) and Northbrae are all right in the middle of each city and can hardly be referred to as "Shit Holes". I lived in Sonoma County for 12 yrs and its fantastic if you want go wine tasting which also applies to Napa County which is right next door, but 80% of the residents there also don't associate with the "Hoi Polloi" and they most definitely don't take kindly to strangers.

Best place to "Visit & Make New Friends" for Providers is Santa Rosa which is where I lived. You may recall the devastating fires that swept through there 2 yrs ago? Well, there is currently an official SHIT TON of Construction Workers' all over the place there building the City back to what is once was and all of them get paid Prevailing Wage. $53/hr Straight pay and $136.41/hr Saturday OT pay. A lot of them are employee's of BIG Construction companies and are from out of town. That means a lot of lonely, homesick men & a few women with a lot of Cash and nobody to hang out with.

I would recommend staying out of downtown SF. Crime and traffic is awful. Santa Clara or San Jose would be much better and easier. Also Burlingame, is right by the airport, just south of SFO.
