Viagra was developed by big Pharma for women . Specifically for pulmonary hypertension! Originally as a big money loser as there was little demand for its intended use . By accident it was found to enhance penile erections and the rest is history!! One of the biggest money makers for big pharma . That is what i call serendipity!! lol. PS would caution use by women for off label use!

Bitches taking Viagra sounds redundant.
|
|
If i'm not mistaken , it was originally a blood pressure medication , as it dilates the blood vessels to promote healthy blood flow. Side effect was healthy erections.
History.

Great question LOL if i remember correctly this topic was talked about in detail and answered in this podcast. Hamilton is one my favorite journalists of all time and a brilliant scientist.

On a side note if you want to play the long game for a healthy and vibrant sex drive all men and women should be taking Maca root. Youâll be fucking like your 20 when youâre 70 but you have to be consistent in taking it.

Ayla,
For those who don't want to listen to the entire episode... jump to around 58min in the podcast through about 61min.
A lot of the podcast is just two people talking about themselves and the drugs they consume.

Fun fact: The active ingredient in Viagra was originally developed to treat hypertension because it promoted enlargement of the tight and constricted blood vessels of the lungs. During early clinical trials, it was reported that over 85% of male patients experienced prolonged erections. Keep in mind, think of your typical male patient that is suffering from hypertension. Hint, it ain't young, fit and healthy people.
Obviously the management team in Pfizer saw the pot of gold with this, so they switched gears, renamed it Viagra, resubmitted their FDA clearance for ED treatment and the rest is history and made Pfizer and the blue pill a household name.
FDA gave clearance for treating hypertension using Viagra about a decade later after the ED treatment approval under a different name, but not really prescribed outside of boner-pills as there are much better options for treating hypertension. If I remember right, the hypertension version of Viagra is administered as a injectable.
Science for the win!

not to forget the blue pill also reduce Alzheimer disease..
