Ok, as a life long resident of surf city I am going to need a little more context. We do have an area we call the Slater Slums but it's hard to picture HB as a ghetto when the average price for a home is 1.3 million. Are you calling Pete Malloy ghetto? Please elaborate.

We have SSHB (Slater) and the old Motown HB areas (Delaware), but even those areas are not totally dilapidated...

My experience is that HB is anti-business and that the police union runs the show with their money, all of the politicians are existing in fear of, and marching to the drumbeat of the HBPD.
I remember back in the day when they closed the beaches at 6 PM on July 4th and half a million pedestrians flooded the downtown areas. Dozens of police began arresting people when the sidewalks overflowed and people ended up in the streets obstructing traffic. A police officer who remained unidentified due to wearing riot gear and a helmet, was caught on video striking a 15 year-old girl across the face with a night stick, after she was pushed off of the sidewalk and ended up in the street.
Don't get me started on the OP riots -- HB cops are pure and unadulterated evil -- all the way back to the Chief Ron Lowenberg days and his little puppy vice officer Irwin Feuerstein, aka "Spike." Spike once wrote a citation to Downtown's Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory for selling Liqueur filled chocolates without a liquor license...what a dumbass, you don't need a license for that!

I think that the problem starts at the top.
The City Council in H.B. and City Attorney are a work of art (and not in a good way).
Are you aware that H.B. is only one of a very small handful of cities in California that elect their City Attorney? Too political.
I concur that H.B. is very diverse. And can be lots of fun.
We have lived there multiple times.
But, it's sad watching the City Council flush away millions of dollars on things that they have no control over. They are only a municipality, and it would be nice if they could focus on those things that are under their control.
To date, I can't think of a single law suit where they have prevailed against the state or federal governments.
I marvel that the H.B. electorate is asleep. Shame on you!

Actually depending upon the state, you DO need a liquor license to sell liquor filled candy. Each state has a level where the amount by volume moves it into the licensing requirement.
Of course, CA is one of those states. Oregon, for instance, mandates any confection that contains liquor at 5% or more by volume to be sold in liquor stores. I think CA level is also 5%.
I would expect many of the liquor filled chocolates would be far more than 5% by volume.

My guess is that not one officer that was on duty that day is still on the police force. But please lets get you started. I remember eating at Avilas Mexican Restaurant in late 1998/early 1999 (it could have been the restaurant located in the same spot before Avilas). My brother and I were looking over the menu when we looked up and noticed several skinheads already there. It was very disconcerting.
HB has since cleaned up a bit. Some of the trash was removed with gentrification and redevelopment, including Pacific City and Bella Terra.
There are obviously plenty of good people in HB, and I do love it for various reasons. But it does have a disproportionately high percentage of racists. No wonder MAGA is currently flourishing in HB.

I was in HB for the 4th of July parade. There was an enormous rainbow flag (like 20 feet x 15 feet) held by a dozen or more people. I was thinking to myself, "shit, these people are going to get killed."
I will give you one more story about HB from around 10 years ago. I was driving on PCH around 2AM after playing poker with my friends. Surprisingly, I hadn't been drinking that night (I almost always do when I meet up with them). Around 17th Street, an old truck WITH ITS LIGHTS OFF rammed into the back of my car and then immediately swung next to me where I saw the two losers looking at me. It then cut into 14th Street and disappeared. I was driving a Mercedes rental.
Can we not all agree that HB has plenty of losers like this?
Again, I actually love HB in many ways, but it's got plenty of problems.

There have been about 1200 people charged out of 340 million people in the U.S. and 70 million who voted for Trump. So, let's assume all 1200 will be found guilty, that is miniscule percentage of the 70 million Trump voters.
In the HB 'riot' that was cited, there were a total of 500 people on BOTH sides. So, even if you assume 75% of them were the white supremacists that would be 375 people, out of the Huntington Beach population at that time of nearly 200,000, 2 tenths of one percent of the population.
I love how people on the left can make mountains out of molehills.
Chicago had over 550 murders last year, so I guess I will have to say all Chicagoans are murderers.

CNN has been heavily criticized for failing to fact check Trump on the spot. Sure, Biden's poor performance at the debate included his failure to address most of Trump's lies, but the network shouldn't platform a pathological liar without countering it with facts.
By the way, CNN did list all of Trump's lies after the show in excruciating detail, and it identified several lies that Biden said as well.
Lastly, I would consider myself to be an early 90's Republican, which is more centrist. Now your Party is wack. If you understand Program 2025, a lot of your rights will be taken away dumb fucks.
That includes a complete national ban on abortion for any reason, and they want to ban contraception! Brilliant.
They also want to ban all PORN! Where is Dr.Boogie, who always claims that it is the Dems who want to do that. It is on the Republican agenda.
And most of those who worked on Project 2025 were in Trump's administration (around 120 people).
