Green Parrot.
The kind of place that is tacky enough to play disco, country, tango and have bikers and yacht captains mingle with each other.
|
|
Hogfish Bar & Grill
a great place where locals go to eat and drink
its not in the KW DT area, need to take uber there..

OMG!
Just found the greatest place! Kind of off the beaten path but well worth it. Louie's Backyard. Right on the water. 4.5 out of 5 stars! And yet, shorts, flip-flops, and baseball caps are perfectly acceptable.
My son recommended it. He is going to college in Key West (I know, spoiled brat!) and has had 2 years to find all of the hole in the wall places that are not on Duval Street.
But I am still interested in other places. Duval Street will the the target for tomorrow.

Green Parrot sounds like fun! I will definitely drop in there tomorrow for a brew or two.

Ask PeteMalloy - he's Mr Key West Florida himself !

Did someone mention Key West Florida ?
Mile Zero USA
The southernmost point in the USA
90 miles from Cuba
Yes, Key West is my happy place and I own that
|
|
Okay, so starting over to the east on Key Haven --- Go to 32 Driftwood --- it's the MTV House in the Key West area... Real World 2006 --- shot in 2005 --- Johnny Banana's Season
Hogfish bar & grill is a good spot --- it's on Stock Island --- so go during the day as it's not a place to be at night ...
Roostica Pizza --- The best wood fired Pizza ever
And believe it or not --- My favorite CVS store is on Stock Island
|
|
Heading west onto Roosevelt --- The Stoned Crab
Great outdoor restaurant in middle key West ...
Then let's head over to Duffy's Steakhouse --- My Favorite dining experience in Key West ...
Then let's go to the end of Front Street and you'll be at the A&B Marina --- So many great spots :
A&B Lobster House
Alonzo's Oyster Bar
Wahlburger's is on the Marina now
Conch Republic Seafood Company
Fisherman's Cafe
go around the corner to : Schooner Wharf Bar
Dessert at Kermit's Key Lime Pie Shoppe
|
|
Of course, there's a gazillion bars on Duval Street --- aka " The Duval Crawl "
Harpoon Harry's is a good breakfast & lunch spot ...
The Cuban Coffee Queen is a nice coffee spot across the street from Harpoon Harry's ...
Two Friends Patio Restaurant is a great place all day long and has live music most of the day --- it's on Front Street just around the corner from Duval --- next door to another CVS ...
Blue Heaven is a great spot --- parking sucks though, so go earlier than planned and drop off people and let the driver go find a parking spot --- food and ambiance is worth it
Moondog Cafe is great too, hard to find parking but worth the mental anguish to eat there ...
On South Duval is some great places for breakfast primarily, but also great for lunch :
Banana Cafe
La Grignote
And never forget poolside dining and drinks at the La Te Da boutique hotel
|
|
Is there a Mickey D's?
|
|
GBD --- Not that I can recall ... I think that there's a Burger King on Roosevelt
No Target nor Wal-Mart on Key West either... K-Mart of all places is the general items store, but most people flock to CVS in Key West
Home Depot only too, no Lowe's on Key West ...
|
|
And I can't forget my little smoothie place at the Green Pineapple store & wellness center at 1130 Duval Street --- right across the street from La Te Da
|
|
Key West is 4 miles wide (East to West)
1 mile (North to South)
So it's not a huge island --- A " Key " is an island for us West Coasters
Key West is an awesome place
3 hour drive from Miami --- Leave early to avoid truck traffic on the way down ...
Or
Lots of flights come into Key West too, but Key West is a shorter runway airport, so lots of smaller aircraft fly in and out of Key West ...
|
|
Don't forget the Hemingway House on Whitehead street... It's right across from the lighthouse.
Hemingway wrote there for ten years or so.
Then, north 180 miles to Fort Lauderdale, for some great sail fishing.
They will be grouping.
|
|
Yes, my good friend Whitelight
Very informative as usual
Also, we cannot forget that the " Southern " White House is in Key West and has hosted many Presidents such as :
Taft
Truman
Eisenhower
Nixon
Carter
Clinton

Schooner Wharf Bar, Captain Tony's
|
|
@ Captain Tony's
The true definition of a dive bar.
The place is so dark and so cool cause Jimmy Buffet wrote a song about it.

OMG Key West is just the best 🌴 🍹
Fly Silver Airlines from FLL to EYW ✈️ 🏝️

I was in key west 25 years ago and then again this year.
25 years ago it was a true gem to visit, now its a lot of middle aged people getting drunk on Duval st.
reminds me of every other destination such as vegas, memphis, new orleans etc - same pub crawl
sure i will visit again but will spend more time on islamorada and the outer area of KW/beach.
|
|
^
Yeah, kind of agree with you a bit.
I love to fish Islamorada and Marathon, and not really much else.
I will always be connected, to my home base of Fort Lauderdale, as well as Pompano Beach and Boca Raton.
Michelle Lovee, keeps me posted... The Fort Lauderdale boat show, Lester's Diner and the 17th street draw bridge...

More of the MTV House in Key West
It's a pretty large property with a Tennis court and a guest house adjacent to the main house.
It sits at the end of street and the back of the property is a boat canal.

The Green Pineapple
1130 Duval Street
(South Duval Area)
|
|
La Te Da
Right across the street from the Green Pineapple
Great place
|
|
And on a very clear night at Mile Point Zero. Look to the south about 90 miles. You'll be able to see Havana, Cuba lit up with the the naked eye. Just a very tiny little twinkle of light.
|
|
One of the little secrets about Key West...
For Breakfast, you better be an early riser and arrive at a restaurant by 7 am - 8 am window
Anytime after that, you're looking at a 30 to 60 minute wait at most places ...
La Te Da is technically a boutique hotel, but serves the public with its outdoor restaurant and its bar area is very popular all day long.
You can't see it here, but right behind the bar area is their pool area and they have multiple tables there and eating poolside in Key West is a great experience, and the restaurant food is really - really good
|
|
Willie T's is on Duval and is a part of the " Duval Crawl "
Willie T's is known for its decor of one dollar bills affixed to the walls and ceiling ...
|
|
I don't know the whole story behind the Jimmy Buffet song of " Margaritaville " , but I have a hard time believing that the location on Duval is what he was talking about ...
Nothing really special to my eye, but maybe there's more to the story of Margaritaville than I have observed on my many trips to Key West.
|
|
My home away from home while in Key West
Casa Marina
It's on the south side of the Key, and is a great resort
|
|
Green Parrot was cool. You can't go wrong at a bar with a juke box and a pool table. Nice homey atmosphere with lots of locals to talk to.
|
|
Although it was noticed that there was no Jimmy Buffet on the Juke Box - Sacrilege!
|
|
I went down to Captain Tony's
to get out of the heat.
When I heard a voice call out to me
Son come and have a seat
I had to search my memory
As I looked into those eyes.
Our live change like the weather
But a legend never dies.
I ate the last mango in Paris
Took the last plane out of Saigon
I took the first fast boat to China
And Jimmy there's still so much to be done.
