Pretty good deal for them! I heard he was asking 900 million on PD
he will bring in about 23-30m in outside revenue for the team
yesterday was kind of a lil cluster fuck
Messi is next
You get to win even more games during the regular season with the most exciting player in baseball …
but still flame out in the playoffs.
hopefully, it will be a long frustration for the team...fuck em
they are saying a majority of contract is deferred. with the money coming in from outside sources, could be a major coup...they could take that 25-30m coming in and invest it to match up for payments down the line. the contract AV could be in the 40's? and be very workable for the CBT of the dodgers
Let's go DOGGERS!
All I can think about is the Feds and CA just sucking off a bit more than half of that
For 700 million & the potential influx of foreign tourists visiting Dodger stadium...
Maybe now they will beef up security so people dont get jumped for wearing the wrong colors.
Fruitcakes aka California's. They're gonna always act stupid.
They're just entitled individuals.
in theory....they might not come out of pocket on this deal one penny...the whole thing could be paid with what ohtani brings into the organization from outside sources. they might have to PRE load the fund like he's getting a bonus, but very possible they get that whole pre-loaded bonus back with a little interest
just remember who is writing these checks
pretty fucking sick
now just hope frigging DAK, parsons and lamb take a few lessons here. doubt it...dak will hold out for 60m

Well, if your disney you get 3 parking garages, all paid for by now defunct RCID public funds by issuing bonds.
Not bad if you can do it without getting caught. Unfortunately they just did.

i thought his elbow was out for good
or maybe he will be the best paid ambassador ever..
'i thought his elbow was out for good'
Don't know about shot but he does have elbow issues and is having his 2nd tj in 5 years.
Last time he was out 2 years and was the dh in '19 and only pitched 2 games in '20.
But he also seems to be 'injury prone' - besides the two tj's he also needed surgery for the patella in 2019, in '20 after his first tj he was shut down again for a flexor strain etc.
He's a beast when he's on the field it's just that if he stays true to form he'll miss significant chunks of time.
But the Dodgers have better personnel then the angels so maybe they'll figure out what's causing his elbow issues, he didn't have any when he was in Japan, so maybe he'll be fine once he gets back.
They did have another pitcher who'd gone through 2 tj's and he pitched well and without any issues after the 2nd so they figured something out.
Maybe they can do the same for Ohtani, the angels never could but ... then it is the angels.
If he does miss a ton of time it'll be a bad signing if not and he comes back true to form and they figure out what's putting so much strain on his elbow, he'll be a beast.

ripping him off, he should take more than, hes actually only gonna make 2mil per year
for the franchise to help them but id say thats bs to him
AF you are being a moronic anti-angel hater. which is fine btw...but don't be disingenuous with your so-called expertise
he fucking CAME to the Angels with an elbow injury and it needing TJ surgery...he wanted to win the ROY with his hitting and delayed the shit out of it
being that the dodger DOC kinda has a good inkling about his elbow...they have an advantage...kinda like the cowboy DOC doing most of the NFL-type surgeries also. it's an advantage of insider knowledge. doesn't always work out...but these teams are GLASS HALF FULL types. you definitely the guy on a craps table playing don't pass.
AS ALWAYS, it's easy to SAY contracts aren't good...history has kinda shown most are not. so quit repeating over and over
THIS dodger contract? has the possibility of NOT costing them out of pocket one penny
i read about the two mil/year now - makes more sense.
its a huge gamble on dodgers side and he probably knows that, damaged goods.
and probably not the latest we've heard on this subject.
now just need to replace roberts
When healthy Ohtani is the best player in baseball history. His bat alone would've earned him around 350 million contract. I think he'll be fine in 2025 to pitch but don't think he'll have too many seasons of doing it. He'll eventually revert to just straight hitting in order to save his body from more surgeries. The dodgers just need pitching and they will sleepwalk to another couple of WS titles. Great time to beat Dodgers fan lol
Wish the Angels would have tried that strategy with CJ Wilson and Josh Hamilton
Plus 1,000,000 to just need to replace Roberts. I would trade the 2020 chip for having him fired.
again, possibility of not one penny out of pocket on this deal
so pretty decent risk and bet
if he performs at or exceeds expectations...they will MAKE money on this contract from an owner's standpoint
Agreed. Los Angeles is a huge market and Ohtani is a global commodity so far as advertising goes. The dodgers will probably recoup most if not all of his contract just by marketing.
Jeez IS you sound just like bob iger, kevin feige and kathleen kennedy.
High, long term contracts are very risky and usually don't pan out. Just ask the mets about bobby bonilla or the rangers about arod or the spanks about aaron judge or or or.

'When healthy Ohtani is the best player in baseball history'
WRONG!!!
Babe Ruth as a pitcher had an AMAZING record and won over .640% of his games. As far as hitting Ohtani couldn't even carry Ruth's bat!
There's NO ONE on the planet that would take Ohtani, as good as he is, over Babe Ruth!
Atticus Finch
You clearly don't know baseball. Ruth didn't come close to what Ohtani is currently doing. And Ruth quit pitching pretty early in his career. Ohtani > Ruth all day every day and it's not even close.
DUDE...again, i am not for long-term contracts
odds are it will have some issues...they all do. so you SAYING this shit over and over doesn't make you smart
you totally botched this one with your lil thinking
this contract has the ability of not costing the dodger owners any money out of their pocket
and you conveniently leave out the big piece of the puzzle that baseball teams have rarely seen before...or to this magnitude. leaving it out? you are just like that other disingenuous lib fucks on the site, trying to win an argument. NOW there are two or three big things about it and you STILL don't get it
listen to hundreds of professionals on the BABE thing. trying to be a purist on this is lost cause.
bob who?
stop it...you know which way i swing....while you are pretty iffy btw

I really hate agreeing with this douchebag but anybody that is not living in the past takes the jap over the fat honky.
I'm anxious to see how he does next season when he doesn't have to worry shoot pitching every 5th day. Plus he's a beast on the base paths as well
Ruth pitched 1,221.1 innings
Started 148
ERA 3.60
Won 94
Lost 48
Ohtani in the USA has pitched 481.2 innings
Started 86
ERA 3.01
Won 38
Lost 19
Ohtani in Japan pitched 543 innings
Started 62
ERA 2.52
Won 42
Lost 15
Time will tell. He is an interesting player
^ You forgot to mention that he did that in 6 seasons!
Atticus Finch
You forgot to mention he mostly either pitched or hit. Not both.
Oh fuck.
I forgot to mention he's 29 years old.
"You forgot to mention he mostly either pitched or hit. Not both."
Exactly. He's going to only hit next year so we'll see what his true potential is there. I still think he only pitches 3-4 more years max as to save wear on his body. Still take him at his current contract pay just on his marketability. His new jersey just broke the record for most sales in a 48 hour period yesterday. This guy is a phenomenal marketing dream
I was talking about the fat honky. The jap did both at the same time at a high level.
I know you were. I was just pointing out that Shohei will be free to only worry about hitting next season.
"You forgot to mention he mostly either pitched or hit. Not both."
Babe didn't hit while he was pitching? Really..

When's the last time ohtani pitched 200 innings much less 300?
In fact - when's the last time he came close to 180?
Need to get your facts straight.
Atticus Finch
My numbers are statistics
2023 most innings thrown was by Webb. 216 innings
The way things are done now, you're gonna have a tough time doing comparisons
Picthers are limited. There are no three or four man rotations. Maybe in playoffs.
They play more games in a season.
If statistics aren't facts, then I don't know what is?
Wasn't for you.
Was refutting rbf that Ruth didn't hit when he pitched.
Obviously that was WRONG according to the stats/facts.
True game has changed a bit but a lot of starters still pitch around 200 IP.
Ohtani can't get to 170.
But players now a days play less games then they did in the past. Most played the whole season back in the day. Now they get more time off.
Owners back then were mostly ass holes and rode players hard and put them up wet.
Atticus Finch

not quite sure getting to 200 innings in losing seasons is a big deal, considering his value.
he might not ever reach it during the regular season btw....i think the dodgers would love to get 150 in the regular season with about 25starts and be a stud in the playoffs where it might be a little more beneficial
now that he's fucking dodger...fuck him
but might be fun to SEE how big things can get and how much money those fuckers are going to spend.
if dogs get anywhere from 70-100 war during his tenure there...they'd be jerking off nightly
no matter how it's put together during the REG seasons

Guys there is no reason for name calling.
That is unless you are taking about the cock sucking, mother fucking, wife beating, hole licking, rat eating San Francisco Giants.
Then the gloves are off.

Hopefully a nice addition.
