The former security director at my business retired and moved to Castellón, not too far away.
He was an ass, but no fool.
First year was golden, but because he was foreign local criminals conned him, because he did allow “mordidas” to local lords. By year 4 he put his tail between his legs and moved to Portugal, where the same occurred. Now he is out in Tennessee where he understands the people.
Spain still is an old culture with feifdoms, familial and criminal.

well boys and girls it is official! I am living on the Mediterranean in Spain I can see the Mediterranean Sea from my terrace. I am living the dream exactly how I manifested it! If anyone is wondering this is the best decision I ever made in my entire life. if anyone would like to move to Spain please contact me and I can help you get an apartment because that's the biggest hurdle. I love it here and I don't miss America for one fucking second. My best to you all!

what made you choose spain over portugal

In 2005 I was on the island of Ibiza and I got deathly ill and ended up in the hospital I had emergency surgery and was in the hospital on Ibiza for six weeks. I did not have health insurance in the United States and if I would've been in the US and gone to the emergency room they would've given me some penicillin and sent me home and I would've died. Spain saved my life they immediately put me in an MRI machine identified what was wrong with me and told me if I didn't have surgery within 72 hours I would die I elected of course have the surgery and remained in the hospital there for six weeks and they absolutely took the best care of me I could've ever imagined. I owe my life to Spain and I vowed I'd always be back I left my heart there and I came back to get it

I had a similar, but far less serious, experience with the healthcare system in Spain. I was a tourist, so no Spanish health insurance, paid €80 for an ER visit that would’ve got me a bill of several thousand dollars here.
My favorite European country.

I have multiple businesses and am semi retired. I have a three bedroom apartment on the Mediterranean Sea so I definitely have room plus a couch! Thank you for all your kind words and wishes. I got a five-year visa called a digital nomad visa and 63 countries around the world have it. And by the way I have mastered paella!

guessing they have socialized healthcare but usually foreigners get billed.
maybe you had a travel insurance?
for your 5 years - what do you now do for healthcare insurance?

Seville was awesome! Loved Barcelona too, but one place that doesn’t get its due is Granada. Rented a car and drove all through the Andalucia. Had best time of my life. If you are up for it, get a cheap flight and go to Marekesh (30-40 euros when I did it last year.). Hung out in the old city and just got lost every damn day and had the adventure of a lifetime.

Life is truly beautiful! I am so happy & finally feel free from the hamster wheel life in the US was serving me. now every day I go to the beach with my little dog, Eat fresh bread and have no need for a car. I highly recommend the Mediterranean Life ♥️🇪🇸

I've visited various parts of Spain a lot, and will again in the future (mainly go to the north, Oviedo, Leon, etc.). Best of luck living life now that you've settled in. I love the hamster wheel of US life.
Trudging thru the sleet of OC to scrape the ice from the windshield of my 27 year old car, that I'm still making payments on, for the 2 hour commute to my dead-end job where my boss hates me and nothing ever goes right..........this is what I live for.
And, when I get home, there's a virtual cornucopia of delicious women to dm on this site.
