You are correct. There isn't much at all that can be said or done to ease the sorrow. Nevertheless your well wishes and words of encouragement did make having to go through the pain, a little less lonely.

Kind and thoughtful words. Yes, the holidays can be a tough time for many people. I lost my father six days before Christmas, and that loss lingers with me this time of year still after18 years.
It’s important to recognize it’s not necessarily a joyous time for everyone.

Storm - Thank you for your kind words. I just remember the dark place i was in years ago (the reason i left quietly), so know that you aren't alone. Even I still take a couple days to hibernate and cope and make sure my parents are ok, but I promise it gets better!! Like i can laugh and crack jokes about them now. Also you may think im crazy, but a life size cut out is pretty great to have too (I only have 1, not one for each person). At least with myself it helped big time. I put seasonal outfits on him, and when things come up missing i blame my brother

My Dearest PK.....
Every word you have stated is true. The holidays are truly hard for so many. Memories are always kind to us, especially when it comes to those that we have loved and will always love. You and I have spoken about this more than a few times....I lost my mother over the holidays. Though it was a bittersweet departure, I cannot always fill the deep hole that her loss created for me.
So, thank you for this reminder to keep them alive with Happy and Fun memories. I have so many. Definitely, when you get sad, have a picture or a video of a great moment or event with that person or persons.
Thank you again PK for your sweet and thoughtful words....you, my dear, are an amazing woman, with a beautiful exterior with an exquisite soul.

Now my dear friend, retired from here years ago may not last much longer because of Cancer at 57.

Prettiest Miss Kittty,
For some of us, a holiday means nothing.
For me, it's a forced day away from work.
Work is where my life has meaning,
And even there, my life has evolved into loneliness.
I get assigned menial tasks, toiling by myself,
Working with tools I grasp in my hands.
I him to myself random notes of music meaningless,
And when it's time to leave the day, I go to find sleep.
I am among those, loneliness is my sole companion,
I only ask that my day ends in peace and sleep,
I wake, I eat, I sweat alone by myself each day,
And when I think, I look for someone to touch...
It's already too late today, I see only where they've been.
I have my memories of kindness, affection, long gone by.
But maybe there is mercy in the hope that someday,
I will get to renew a time when life was not so alone.
I remember when I spent a birthday with you,
And then celebrated your birthday with me.
