Tsunami waves hit Japan after 7.6 magnitude earthquake
|

Holy cow!!

Did Godzilla fart under water?
All seriousness, a 7.5 is no joke. Lucky wry few fatalities have happened.

|
And LA local news talks about a puny 3.9 off Catalina.

The quake, which is estimated to have been magnitude 7.6, struck the Noto peninsula in Ishikawa prefecture on the main central island of Honshu at about 4.10pm local time (07:10 GMT). It knocked out power to tens of thousands of homes and disrupted flights and rail services.
A summary of our coverage from today
A powerful earthquake has struck central Japan’s western coastline, triggering waves over a metre high and prompting tsunami alerts and warnings for people to evacuate.
Japan’s meteorological agency initially reported that a 7 magnitude earthquake occurred at about 11pm, but later said this number was inaccurate and the quake was smaller, with an intensity of 3, according to public broadcaster NHK.
An aftershock of magnitude 5 hit the Noto peninsula at 8.35pm, leading to alerts being issued to residents to beware of already weakened buildings and structures collapsing.
The tsunami warning in Japan was later downgraded to a tsunami advisory. But people were warned they should remain alert for more possible earthquakes.

For many years japan has been very proactive in their construction of new buildings.
I'm very curious to see how these ideas worked out in this latest quake.
Mother nature is a bitch.

I heard that the 7.0+ earthquake's epicenter was on the Western coast of Honshu... the Main/Central Island..
So, a tsunami wave would project Northwest, West, and Southwest...
toward the Eastern shores of Koreas and Siberia (Sea of Japan).

Tectonic plates are shifting again. Afrika is splitting apart, Iceland is bubbling magma, Japan is shaking.
Mexico has been shaking, Hawaii spewed lava. We are overdue for movement.

Update: two planes crash at Japan airport to a fiery fireball of fire.
|
|
TOKYO — A Japan Airlines passenger jet caught fire Tuesday on the runway at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport after colliding with a coast guard plane.
Video footage showed the Airbus A350 burning as it moved along the runway before becoming engulfed after it came to a standstill. Rescuers were seen extinguishing the fire.
All 367 passengers and 12 crew members escaped the passenger plane, Flight 516, although 17 people were injured, Tokyo’s fire department said. The plane had been flying from Sapporo in northern Japan to Tokyo.
Five of six crew members aboard coast guard aircraft MA722 died, while the pilot is in critical condition, according to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. The crew was heading to Niigata Airport in western Japan to bring aid to communities devastated by a powerful earthquake that struck the area Monday, according to Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
