Running for public office is not a right. It is a privilege which can be and is taken away. The Amendment says nothing about being convicted of insurrection. Just engaging in it, violating an oath, and providing aid and comfort. The reason is simple. We could not put the entire confederate army on trial.
Whether trump falls under the language of the Amendment was already adjudicated in congress when he was impeached for inciting an insurrection.
The logic of originalism demands trump be banned from the ballot. But that does not mean it is the right thing to do. It probably is not.

A trial is a judicial process whereby an accused is assumed innocent until proven guilty and has the opportunity to present evidence, cross examine and challenge the evidence of the person accusing them or bringing charges, and have to be proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

Biden's policies have dramatically improved the US economy. Our inflation is near 2%, unemployment is at 40 year lows, GDP grew 5.9% least quarter, something that never happened in trump's full term, and we are head and shoulders better off economically than all other major world economies. He's relieved billions of dollars in student loans despite the supreme court. Consumer confidence is way up. The fed iis signaling 3-4 rate cuts this year. We basically soft landed the devastation of COVID better than any other country inn the world. He's old. He's prone to verbal gaffes. Idk if he really can fully serve out another 4 year term but he's a hell of a lot healthier and more cognitively ok than trump. This vote won't even be close. Biden wins in a landslide. Trump will be found guilty in DC before the election. 35%+ republicans won't vote for a convicted felon. His base is definitely passionate but they're not growing, their just vocal, and violent, but not enough of the electorate to beat Biden. This race is over once he's convicted and the supreme court is not going to bail him out of that 3 concurrent opinion the DC circuit court of appeals just released Thursday. They probably will take up the case given the historical nature of the decision but it will be a quick reaffirmation of the 11th circuits decision. Trial will be held in summer and he's dead in DC before a DC jury. Cannon may end up being removed from the Mar a Lago case which would definitely speed that case up to before the election. No sane person will vote for a twice convicted felon for POTUS. It's all over but the GOP primary electing trump to his slaughter.
