Trump isn't leaving NATO. He threatens so they pony up their financial commitments. When Trump took office, there were only 4 NATO countries contributing at least 2%, and that includes US. So only 3 others. When he left, every single country except Canada under their fuck head Trudeau, had increased their contributions. So, his threats do work.

And when Trump left, there were 9 countries at the 2% number or greater. Give him 4 years and I bet he can double that number again.

honestly i think many of the european leaders are worried if trump can be trusted, one way or another - he says stuff like this and it creates uncertainty.

But it gets their asses in gear to up their defense spending. They don't know if he is bluffing or real. Keep them guessing and NATO will only get stronger as they fear for their own lives.
Many of the NATO countries, including the likes of Germany, Belgium, Italy, Denmark, etc. have been well below the 2% number. They have always felt the U.S. will bail them out if needed. And we always have done so in the past.
It is high time they understand, the threat is on their own continent and thus, they need to step up.

Trump is not my first choice, that is for sure. But I would rather vote for him than have another 4 years under Biden or anyone that currently might slip in as his replacement, Harris, Newsome, Obama, Whitmer...

Listen junior. Strategically speaking there is no such thing as continents anymore. Do you know how many times Article 5 has been invoked since NATO was founded? Do you peasant? Do you?
Once. After 9/11. Our allies came to us without hesitation. We owe them the same. And not only for them. But because the flight of a supersonic missile from Europe to America is about 15 minutes.
There are no financial requirements written down in the NATO alliance. Because it was a treaty written by and for men of honor. Something you would know nothing about.

Nothing better to embolden a tyrant like Putin than to make those wanting to contain him feel uneasy about U.S. participation in the alliance.

Trump told his cabinet members that he wanted the U.S. to leave NATO. You're only giving Trump the benefit of the doubt because it is perfectly clear that Putin is the tyrant that everyone has claimed he was after Navalny's murder. Like it wasn't enough that he started an unprovoked war against Ukraine and vowed to reconstitute the U.S.S.R by taking over the rest of the former Eastern Block countries.

^ fucking over Europe like this would turn international and financial allies into aggressive competitors, and the power and financially of the United States would greatly diminish. What we would be spending to shore up our international interests abroad would increase exponentially due to self-inflicted stupidity.

None of that would happen, or at least not to the degree you think it would.
Regardless of what you or europe or anyone else thinks the US is still the straw that stirs the drink.
Would they be pissed cause now they'd actually have to take care of their own defense taking away from their socialized medicine etc. Absolutely. So what. They've sucked on the tit of the US for the last 70+ years - time to cover you're own shit.
They're going to be pissed no matter what - If RFK gets the White House he's already said he's going to start closing bases and cut the defense budget to a reasonable 5 - 600 billion. That'll put a lot of people that work on them and the businesses that supply those bases out of work.
All of that is going to piss them off.
Does that mean he shouldn't do it? Absolutely not.
It's time the US actually started putting it's citizens and the country first.
