He torpedoed a bipartisan bill that would have helped the border security situation but he did not want to HELP Joe Biden win in 2024 instead of doing it for the American people. NO, he is NOT against NATO. But he is sick and tired of the United States bearing the financial weight of NATO. He called them out as nearly all of the nations when he took office were NOT meeting their financial agreement. When Trump took office only 4 countries were meeting the 2% requirement. When he left there were 9 and every single country EXCEPT Canada had upped its contribution from when Trump took office until he left.
Trump's position is that the rest of NATO needs to step up, including regarding the Ukraine conflict. These countries for decades have put the burden on the U.S. for treaty defense in the region. We typically spend 3.5% of our GDP.
On the surface, what DJT did with NATO members seemed perfectly legitimate. Everyone in the coalition should contribute their part. No one should be allowed to slack.
But what bothers me is the totality of DJT's support for everything Putin! And certainly, Putin would love to see NATO implode!
Makes me wonder if those claims of Putin having some leverage over DJT stemming from the Miss Universe pageant in Russia where DJT allegedly engaged in some raunchy shenanigans is true.
Does Putin have leverage over DJT because of this? Or (purely speculative) did Putin promise DJT (maybe in one of those private meetings where no one else was present) some exclusive rights to Trump properties throughout the Russian empire, including any and all new territories gained (like Ukraine), if DJT would only get rid of NATO. Based on everything we know about DJT, this is certainly plausible and would seem to fit his modus operandi.

But guess what - do you really think that all those polls that show DJT with a commanding lead are non-biased? DJT only deals with people he "thinks" he can control. The pollsters he uses are all surely in his pocket. It is a great psychological trick - nobody wants to be a loser so we always gravitate to the person we think is going to win hands-down. That is why we quit calling elections until all the polling sites were closed, so predictions could not affect those who have yet to vote. It is kind of the same problem with the MAGA base; no one wants to admit that they made a mistake! NOBODY wants to be a loser!
If DJT wins it may very well be the end of democracy as we know it.
If Biden wins, he will be a puppet for the Democratic Party, with all of his cabinet members and aides doing all the work and setting policy. Biden will simply sign off on them (when he is awake). Biden could be in a coma (isn't he already?) and democracy would be better off than if DJT were in control trashing the rule of law and subverting the constitution.

Putin thinks that NATO is a threat to his ambition of expanding Russia's influence of Eastern European countries. The only time Article 5, joint defense of the alliance was invoked only once after Sept 11th, 2001 attack.
