I was also surprised how little coverage in general the moon landing got, especially it being the first one in more than half a century.
Growing up I remember how it seemed like all of the nation was watching the astronauts do their thing. Maybe the fact that these are unmanned changes interest level.

The Chinese have a secret base on the far side of the moon and shoot lasers at other (non-Chinese) ships as they pass by, damaging their electronics and causing them to fail at some level on landing! Crash, tip over, or just die!
