Goodbye 99 cent store. I will miss you.
I started shopping there in the 80s when it was just a novelty store.
I knew this would break your heart
I heard on the news that the 99¢ stores are "closing for good" who really knows what that means, they're are so many Ma & Pa little dollar stores, especially in DTLA.
Hmmmmm I wonder....
Now where am I supposed to buy all my tools from.
The swap meet?
Typical private equity firm maneuver. Maybe a chain like Aldi, that has their shit together will take over some locations.
^^^^^ looooove Aldi !!
No!!!!!
Well, there goes my source for cheap party decorations for the sex parties.
Try ghetto gloryhole.
Fridge cardboard box waist high 3 inch hole
Still have mine, you can borrow it any time.
GBD borrowed it once, asked me to man the box for him. I made any extra 20 bucks that day.
And that's the proper way to stack, fuckers.
You are one stacked mofo.!..
That's sad to see. But what can you buy with 99c nowadays? The merch in there must all be over 99c.
I heard when Motel 6 started in the 60s, it was $6 a night. Good thing they didn't name it Motel $6.
99c stores would have some surprises like Naked Juices & SB Frappuccinos. They introduced me to Shasta Fruit Punch soda. I'd go there to get cleaning supplies, & walk out with a full cart. Sad to see them go. At least there's still Daiso.
I borrowed it then had you man the box?
Where's my fucking $20!!!
The choice was either close all stores or man-up to Joey Bribin' inflation and change the name to the $10.99 store. The estimate came in for the 371 sign changes and they just said "Fuck It", we can't afford that!
Howz my stack so far?
Very Sad Day!
Where's the Gloomster gonna buy his thirdth-hand used punctured condoms he likes to party with?!?!?
PUT THAT UP YOUR STACK AND SMOKE IT, BUTZ!
This is what a good stack'll do to ya
tee will be so upset
just sayin for him
This tee, of which you speak, same guy that picks up Gloomy's used peen gloves off the floor?
Nookooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
What's Tee's full name? Sounds like a fun dude. Wonder if he likes to freak party?
That was some serious stackin... Too Chay.... Too Chay man.
That's Chin to you, nano-peen! 😡😡😡
I'm sure a lot of it had to do with shoplifting.
I'm going to miss going to going there. They had plenty of good deals.
I remember my mother going there when the store would open to get
some great deals, about 15 years ago.
Back in 2006, after the store went public, I was hired as a forensic accountant
to help reconstruct thousands of accounts payable records that had been lost/misplaced.
This was crucial for the outside auditors to complete their annual audit and
Security Exchange Commission reporting.
I got to know one of the VPs, Howard Gold. He was a relative of the Gold family.
Not the executive type. He didn't have to do much but owned a lot of stock
in the company. He would fit in with HX members.

Don't get all worked up about their "Going out of Business Sale." Just a cute trick to drive traffic to the store. Went there yesterday and very few items had been marked down. This is going to be a "slow bleed" until they totally liquidate sometime this summer.
Oh, so the racist "death by a thousand cuts" post!
Chin is not amused!
I'm so happy that lamar will survive until the summer.
Its very sad to see how many business that have been around since before my time have gone out of business or forced to close down because of amazon & just the inflation alone, I think its the dollar store that announced it was raising its cheapest price to $5 its sad the average person can barely afford to buy basic essentials. But I am also an old school soul & I enjoy actually going into a store & buying what I want & need vs being lazy & having it delivered.
Good nothing but trash use once and throw it in or dust collector
Just read on one of my newsfeeds, that one of the old CEOs is putting a group of investors together to buy all the California stores! But first they must liquidate and they’ll come in and bring all new merchandise.
New name....$10.99
The way this state is managed, why would anyone want to start a business here.
The smart people have closed shop and moved out of the state.
