Cost of living IS lower, but the average income is far less, thus the imbalance.

I guess some people want to save a few bucks on rent, so they go out there for cheaper rent but still work in surrounding LA area.
They probably didn't factor in the cost of gas, which is unpredictable, wear and tear on the cars, and their time for commuting.

I was thinking San Diego might be the place as real estate has skyrockted to match OC house prices, but Riverside / Ontario isn't a complete shocker either...

Unexpectedly, Newport Beach has the highest ratio of home prices to income at around 24. Home prices are 24 times average annual income. No other CA city even reaches 20.
You just gotta pick the right parents and you're golden on that inheritance thingy.

That’s because the money we don’t spend on housing is being spent on gas driving to OC and LA for employment opportunities. And we spend so much time on those roads that there isn’t enough time left in the day for any side hustles.

Ya that 8 hr job turned into 11hrs. The price of home ownership.
