You union hacks are shooting yourself in the ass on this one. Volume is down 25 pct since 2021 and ya'll walk off the job? Afraid automation will take away jobs? Management already guarantied everyone working on the current Longshoreman employment list will be paid until they retire when the port automates most of the current jobs and positions.
The union bosses don't want there automation thing. They want future membership since most of the current workers can retire at a relativelyyoung age with full benefits and a damn nice pension and if those fortunate workers did that, well, damn, who's gonna pay the future union dues?
Machines don't pay union dues. People do.
So, I'm moving my company to Houston TX. Lets do the math here. Sailing time from China to LA is 14 days. My containers get discharged from the vessel in 3-4 days after arrival. My trucker's appointment is 3-4 days after that.
14+4+4 = 22 days. About the same time it takes to get the same ship to Houston via the Panama Canal to Houston.
See ya'll in Houston, suckers. Me and anyone with a fucking brain will do the same. Turn the ports of LA and LB into condominiums for the homeless.
