HC Jay Wright has been added... Respect....College Hoops is all about the HC's. They're the superstars, not the players.
There are just a handful of guys who make the engine run. They're group is referred to as Tier One; Creme de la Creme and Popeye Certified.
Tier One; Creme de la Creme; Popeye Certified
Coach K - 12 Final Fours; 5 National Championships ('91, '92,'01, '10, '15); Career Record: 1100-338 (76.5%)
Roy Williams - 9 Final Fours; 3 National Championships ('05, '09, '17); Career Record: 842-227 (78.8%)
Tom Izzo - 7 Final Fours; 1 National Championship ('00); Career Record: 574-225 (71.8%)
John Calipari - 6 Final Fours; 1 National Championship ('12); Career Record: 674-202 (76.9%)
Jim Boeheim - 5 Final Fours; 1 National Championship ('03); Career Record: 926-368 (71.6%)
Bill Self - 3 Final Fours; 1 National Championship ('08); Career Record: 654-201 (76.5%)
Jay Wright - 3 Final Fours; 1 National Championship ('16); Career Record: 522-247 (67.8%)
Recently retired HC's who belonged to the exclusive Tier One; Creme de la Creme; Popeye Certified
Jim Calhoun - 4 Final Fours; 3 National Championships ('99, '04, '11); Career Record: 873-380 (69.7%)
Rick Pitino - 7 Final Fours; 2 National Championships ('96 & '13); Coaching Record: 647-392 (62.3%)
- Coach K is a giant among his own Popeye Certified group.
- Bill Self, Tom Izzo, John Calipari and Jay Wright have a lot of work ahead of them if they're interested in approaching some of Coach K's most impressive accomplishments.
- Roy Williams, who long has been in the shadow of Dean Smith, deserves a great deal of respect for a fine career at both KU and UNC. He's his own man, no longer chasing.
- We miss Jim Calhoun and his UConn Huskies...they will be forever in the wilderness going forward.

Kristen Bartlett has some takes on "lame bitches" from movies of yesteryear Bartlett comes up with a pretty decent topic. She provides some decent snark, but nothing like LACG can bring. I'd describe the article as amusing, but for this writer and the site she works for, average is akin to a Pulitzer for their lowly stature. The article is attached for those that are not too lazy to read. I know many of you often say "didn't read" on my blogs, but maybe today we do something new, no?
Other stuff that I'm burning on:
Jim Rome no longer has a radio show that runs live in Los Angeles. Romey Rome was pulled from AM1090 in favor of Dan LeBatard about two weeks ago. Jim Rome is syndicated on CBS...they do not have an affiliate in LA. This is a significant humiliation for Mr Rome. Although he's made tens of millions in radio, he's on his way out. Colin Cowherd is killing him. I guess Rome was smacked off by AM1090...hey now!
NCAA Tournament begins this morning. It looks as if OU and the Mr Trae Young will be one and done. If the Sooners come up short, this will be his final game in college and likely will be a top 10 draft pick next season. OU HC Lon Kruger has taken five teams to the Tournament over the years (Kansas State, Florida, Illinois, UNLV and now OU). Kruger is an exceptional HC who doesn't get the run that he deserves.
The LA Marathon will be held this weekend, and although we all love LA, it's marathon is not thought to be one of the premier races in the country. In fact it's not close to other big city marathons in terms of prestige (Boston, New York and Chicago). The course has changed so many times over the years. This course that has been run for the last few years is pretty good...starting in Echo Park at Dodger Stadium and heading west to an ultimate finish at the Santa Monica Pier. There will be over 20,000 people participating, a large number for any marathon. Just for perspective, the NY Marathon has 40,000 runners; Boston Marathon 24,000 runners; Chicago Marathon 25,000 runners. Stay away from Hollywood, W Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Westwood and Ocean in Santa Monica on Sunday morning...if you don't your day will be fucked. heyduke has run the LA Marathon on three occasions...but the last time was in 2007. The courses I ran were different than this course, but cool as well...much more South Central and Downtown portions of those courses...no west LA at all.
A good day to my HX community members.

Nike City Uniforms The Nike has released their "city editions" of their NBA jerseys. Some of them are quite good. Others are very poor efforts. I'd say the Lakers edition is among the worst. Opting to name the jersey "Black Mama Edition" is just horrible. The design is nearly identical to the "Hollywood Nights" jersey, and that one wasn't too special.
The best editions include the Memphis Grizzlies who are honoring MLK again this season, with lettering on the uniform inspired by 1968 Sanitation Workers strike of '68. Another great design is The Golden State Warriors, who's city uniform last year was among my favorites. This one is similar, but with a great deal of Chinese symbolism with a cool looking dragon on the chest. The New York Knicks honor the NYFD in their design and it is done well. The Philadelphia 76'ers uniform is simple, clean and should be considered to be their permanent home jersey because it's fantastic.

Rain Dogs Your assignment for the day HX'ers...it's an easy one for a Monday. Listen to the Rain Dogs album by Tom Waits and comment on a favorite song or theme. I'll check back and see where the conversation is going and perhaps add some insight to the discussion. In my humble opinion this album is among the best of the last 30-40 years. So it's a fun assignment, now get to it.
