Dobie Gillis is dead
Dwayne Hickman, who did many things in his life, but will forever be remembered as the hapless Dobie Gillis, has died. “The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis” was the highest rated tv show during its run from 1959-1963. It was not shown in later years because it was made in black and white, not color.

Once they give it a name…
There are many variants of Covid, but only a few have names, like beta, delta, and lambda. Now that they have given the South African variant a name, Omicron, we should be wary of it. It seems more transmissible, but it is unclear how dangerous it is. We shall see.

Automatic photo resizing
This is for all the techies. Why can’t we have something on hx that automatically resizes these huge photos that some people put up. I only use an iPad, and when one of these huge photos appears, it basically freezes my iPad, as I try to move it to the corner. Does anyone have a solution?

Very few golfers have won a PGA tournament after age 50. Phil Mickelson is leading the Traveler’s PGA championship with 13 under par. It would be great to see the “old guy” win.

Difference between the flu and the corona virus
The reason the corona virus is so much worse than the flu is: if you get the flu and are old and sick, you enter the hospital and die within 1-3 days. Young people don’t die of the flu except rarely (<.1%). With the corona virus you get very sick, enter the hospital, and stay in the ICU for 2-3 weeks, on a ventilator, requiring constant attention. And after 2-3 weeks, you may still die anyway. In a hospital with 15 ICU beds, all filled with corona virus patients already there for a week, what do you do with a new young patient who needs a ventilator? Which patient do you disconnect?
