ID theft for a Pay Day Loan. In identity theft, if someone takes out a Payday Loan in my name, am I liable for the debt? If so, why?
Woman called to inform me that I had defaulted on my payday loan. She had all my personal information except current address, I hadn't lived there for fifteen years. She suggested that I pay them then find the person who applied for the loan sue them and get my money back. I explained that I didn't apply for a loan with them and couldn't help them to recover their money. She explained how embarrassing it will be for me when I'm arrested in front of my neighbors or coworkers.
Google say no you are not liable for a debt that you did apply for, co-sign for or authorize. You should first dispute the debt to the payday lender that made the fraudulent loan. They will likely require that you fill out a fraud affidavit, which you should do.
After you have disputed the fraud debt to the lender verbally and in writing, you should also obtain a police report. You should dispute in writing to any credit bureaus that report the fraud debt on your credit reports and provide the credit bureaus with a copy of your police report. If the credit bureaus do not remove the fraud debt from your credit report, they have violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act and can be sued for you by a consumer attorney.

A vegetation fire burned near the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area in Irwindale on Sunday afternoon, August 1, and was stopped at 15 acres by firefighters, authorities said.
The fire was reported at 4:26 p.m. near 15501 East Arrow Highway and was influenced by hot and dry conditions, said Capt. Ron Haralson, spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fire's forward progress was stopped around 5:50 p.m., Haralson said.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department assisted with evacuating homeless individuals living near the area, Haralson said.
