Kurds and Mattis Leaving your soldiers behind is abhorrent to Troops in the field. For a few years, we have partnered with the Kurds to take back territory in Syria from ISIS. The Kurds in both Iraq and Syria suffered under ISIS when their areas were occupied. In taking back territory from ISIS, the Kurds have lost around 10,000 soldiers, while the US has had 4 killed, 2 in combat and 2 in an accident.
Trump's pullout, while ISIS still has 10,000 - 20,000 in the area is distressing enough, but doing it after Turkey has threatened to wipe out our Kurdish allies is dead wrong... Was is bought and paid for with an arms sale? Or as a gift to Putin? For whatever reason, one result will be too open up a key pathway for the Iranians into Southern Syria... And a serious Black mark against the U.S. in any future effort to build an alliance.
General Mattis had it right in his resignation letter.
